Ignus isnt in a faction, He is neutral evil and by and large no faction really holds interest for him simply because by allying himself to a faction he is potentially binding himself to a group of people which may become messy when his own ideals and plots inevitably run opposite to said-faction..

I am assuming this doesn't bar him from being able to aquire the needed kudos points to hit level 21?

In my experience, Sundren is strongly focused on Factions. It's practically the core server and roleplaying mechanic. That's why I had another post request new factions that can add a bit more diversity and fill some missing niches (while removing redundant factions that are too similar to others, likely).

No but you aren't increasing your chances.
The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.

Actually, I was, here, as head DM, for a long time! So yes, I know how it is.

Still, there were some things I didn't agree with personally but I still embraced because it was the server's vision. It's part of being on a team.

Join me Iggy. We 'locks gotta stick together!

I thought for the longest time that alyrian was doomed to factionlessness, but I was wrong! And some of my best times have been playing him as part of a faction. I guess my point is even if ur going to clash with a faction at times, that doesn't preclude you from joining them (though it may make advancement harder so u probably want to pick a faction that you don't want to murder).

Alyrian's not epic yet, but I am at least comfortable in the knowledge that when and if I do put in the time, effort and rp, he will (maybe) eventually make it. And it's made much easier because he is in a faction!

          My two pennies.

I don't have any epic-level characters, but since Xaayne hit 20 I've noticed the only times he's really gotten decent amounts of DM-granted XP was when facilitating events for other people. If you want to get all epic, being an organizer is probably the way to go.

It really does help to get involved in things. I've been here since late 09 and only have achieved one epic character, and even that was quite the feat since there are people who have been here much longer than I have and still have no chars with epic levels.

It's great to try to involve yourself in things, as others have said. And it does help tremendously to have a faction to be able to do such things.

Also, you just gotta have patience.

Or just wait until a fickle DM drops an mega-ton XP bomb on you.

DMs also vary widely in xp rewards.

Sticking to one character is hard to do, but I understand the importance of doing so.

Getting involved in a faction is a little more difficult for anyone who is affilitated with a fringe faction. Case in point, I play Angus Ironforge a lot. He is a Skullcleaver and Runesmith in Exigo Syndicate, which is fitting since he is also a very active weapons and armor maker in game. Unfortunately, the Exigo Syndicate is about as exciting as watching paint dry; yet, this faction matches his RP to a tee.

I appreciate all of your insights and comments.

                    Cheers!

A good DM (Or me anyways) can get a player involved in faction-related quests without actually making them a part of the faction. Furthermore you aren't doing anything of what I mentioned above, so that's okay. If you decide to play both sides of a faction conflict, it becomes an in-character ordeal and can be sorted out in character. I have no issue with this.

Though we've already discussed this at length, my focus is geared at the moment toward the plotline of the server, which is heavily faction-focused. Getting involved with said factions is one of the few ways to garner exp from me at this time, when the main plot cools off and I can go back into transient DMing for a while, then there will be more time for more one-on-one events.

How the hell is Xaayne not Epic?! he is like one of the iconic characters of Sundren that everyone knows :S

Is he factionless? If so then it seems anyone factionless is indeed doomed to non-epicness...

Xaayne is epic in spirit, and that's all he needs to be.

I was wondering of the same thing since i find it almost impossible to be able to reach a level like that at this rate, although i guess it really is that rare that not a lot of payer have the gift to be able to reach that certain level with much experience. I have given up on that thought but i try to enjoy the game as much, anyway that is what really matter. goodluck though!

I don't have an epic character either. I have two that are level 20. I have found and agree with others that if you concentrate on one character and get involved with Sundren as a whole, then things start to happen quickly. I've been here for over 2 years and just recently started to het involved. Before I played several characters who just did a lot of grinding. Nothing wrong with that, but to me the RP aspect is more rewarding. I go have to give a ton of thanks to Yevelian for taking me under his wing when I first started and showing me the ropes. He's a fine player.
