I endorse reacting aggressively to casting or buffing up, it's a hostile action. Like someone strolling up to a campfire and slowly pushing shells into a pump action.
As for bloodlines, we're open to suggestions and folk are free to send bio's our way for a look over if they want a non traditional sorc background.

If buffing up is a hostile action, then is putting armor on a hostile action? Buffing up enhances ones defenses, just like putting on armor or picking up a shield. I know in certain historical societies people were not allowed to wear armor on pain of death. Is that how sundren is? Rhetorical Question
"Look! He is putting on armor! Legion, kill him quick!"
I don't think so. Some characters may not understand magic and fear it, but for the most part I would think that spell-users buffing would not be taken any differently than a warrior putting on armor.

Interesting. Hey DM's, I think I'd like to have a Poll to see how many people think spell casting, specifically buffing, is a hostile act. I am curious if I am in the minority.

This has been Sundren etiquette since I began playing here nearly three years ago. Players handle it differently, but do not be surprised if, at a minimum, you get a Tell sent to you asking you to clarify your actions.
I don't think we need a poll, we can just let you guys weed yourselves out. If you think people buffing is ok, then by all means go ahead. The next time that vampire cleric comes along and buffs himself to oblivion before turning on you will teach you better than anyone's opinion.
It's listed as a hostile action in our pvp rules and can be the basis of initiating pvp, that isn't going to change and I don't really see the point in muddying the waters .
R3's example is a very good one.
Rearranging the fabric of reality or summoning up the powers of the gods really isn't the same as walking around in armour.

-"Buffing" or preparing for battle is considered a hostile action. Should a possible opponent begin buffing, you may immediately flag them hostile and begin PVP, bypassing any need for making them aware of impending attacks.
Yup, there it is in black and white on the wiki. I disagree, but this isn't my server so I concede the point.
Now returning to your original thread already in progress . . .
I like the spontaneous cast mechanic and known spells for sorcerors. The known spell feature harkens back to 2nd edition wizards who for the most parts could not know every spell. And I never liked the 2nd edition idea that a Wizard "forgot" the spell on casting and had to rememorize it to cast it again.
If I had my druthers, I'd eliminate the wizard class. I'd rename Sorceror to Wizard and I would change the casting stat from Charisma to Intelligence. (actually, I am doing this in my module. Sorcerors are spontaneous casters as well, with the only difference being that they use Con as their casting stat.)

I like the class but then again I like the FS class too. Why? Because the weave and the gods of Faerun are both capricious and you need a few characters hanging way out on the edge of dangerous just because they can.
1. given to sudden changes: tending to make sudden unexpected changes
Personally, I think act and react defines the interaction between Faerun gods in general. The "capricious" gods tend to initiate the sudden changes and the not so capricious one react. Often they react using whatever means available. That's at least in part where heroes come from.

Putting on armour is more akin to preparing spells. It's what the warrior does at the start of every day for the reason that it's impractical to ever do it in a situation that could turn hostile. It also leaves the person doing it especially vulnerable for a good amount of time (strangely enough, on Sundren, it takes about four times longer than preparing spells, the reason for which I regularly kick/throw a rock at semi-hostile casters that suspiciously drop to one knee mid-conversation)
The warrior analogies to buffing would be drawing a weapon and holding it ready, coating a blade with poison, stringing a bow (arguably more an early-day preparation, but still an act of preparation for combat), putting on a helmet (unless it's already on for reasons like being a Tempusite), intimidating someone, etc etc.
