People might have varying degrees of how things "affect" their PC. It could be in their personality (E.G., Degrees of trust with people, outlook on life, etc.), alignment shifts (Which may or may not be tied to the character's public personality), or in the skills and feats they select for the character.

I agree, if the character is purely static, then it could be potentially boring. But I don't personally see planning out a character's evolution to be an issue, as long as there is room for growth/evolution in other aspects.

    Except for Favored Souls.

I usually plan out my characters to some point, but if there was to come a change IG that would lead elsewhere, especially if the story was done right and it would have significant change on my PC, and I felt it a need to sacrifice a certain skill/feat/level for another one, I would most definitely do it.

I think it's more fun to watch a character progress and be changed by life of the game.
      Characters:
Kore Phrixxus: Pain(Priestess) of Loviatar. Aisleyn Fairefoot: A whimsical hin with a shin-kickin' attitude, and a bow to back it up!

Emiliana was created on a whim and I built her according to the RP. She's undergone quite a few changes along the way as a result of RP and IC progression. I took a point of Cooking for no other reason than Amilynn Steles taught Emmi some basic cooking techniques.

I don't see that as a problem either. Most characters should have a core essence to them. It's just no fun for me if my PC is so rigid that DM events and other PC's can't impact thier perspectives.

Putting goblin meat on a fire is not a cooking technique.

Dain's skill progression was based heavily on RP. He had a geography lesson with Priya Sera, so I put a point in Knowledge: Geography. He played an instrument as a child and hung out with bards a lot when he arrived: points in perform.

I think the 1 point in Knowledge: Geo is my favorite skill point ever, and it's a good thing, because at 2 skill points a level, every point counts, especially when they're cross-class.

I actually have a character who has the close bare minimum in Physical stats and everything he has is Mental and Charisma. I love him

I'm not going lie, most if not all my characters are powerbuilds that I think up. They usually turn out to be 90% powerbuild, 10% rp build. Though as a personal rule of mine, i try to keep away from building characters that have multi-classing restrictions in forgotten realms, such as paladins and monks.
