  • A Request to All You Evil Players

    Hi folks,

Over the course of my work as a DM, I've noticed that some of our customs on Sundren are a little confusing to new players. Unfortunately, that confusion often gets put in a tell from a new player going, essentially: Double-you-tee-eff, mayte? ^_^

These tells, and I don't honestly care if they might be a little bit harshly worded when they come from a confused new player, are frequently met with sharp comebacks and almost derision, escalating a matter far beyond necessary.

Folks, please remember that some actions startle new players. Toggling someone hostile (especially as a group) startles, and provokes a knee-yerk reaction. PvP out of the blue is shocking, particularly if your character is swiftly dispatched.

It is -your- duty as veteran players to provide a pleasant environment to people, even if you play evils. A simple explanation that:

We toggle everyone hostile. We're a roving bad of evil criminals, so if you see us, make sure you get out of the way, since we'll attack. Welcome to Sundren, btw! ^_^
Will go a long way. If you receive a tell from someone that seems piqued? I'm asking you to stay calm and explain your actions kindly.

We're supposed to make this a pleasant place together, not one where a question (even if sharply asked) is responded to with derision.

    Thank you,

    - Chip.

I agree with the OP. Once we're familiar with each other, then we can talk mad shit through tells.

Verbally harassing Kangleton is the best part of this game.

I'd like to take this as an opportunity to remind people about the Justification section of the PvP rules:

-Players must have an in-character reason to attack the person. "My char hates people" is not a valid reason. Retroactively creating excuses for killing characters or deliberately seeking out PVP without valid reason is considered griefing and will not be tolerated.
"My characters god told me to do it", "I'm playing a deranged killer", "Killing newbs is fun, lol" and that sort of thing are NOT valid justifications.

Let's have no more of it.
It is the greatest of all mistakes to do nothing because you can only do a little - Do what you can.

Still worried about being beset by marauding hordes of bandits, Banites, or other ne'er-do-wells? I'd like to take a moment to point out just one of the many in-game options available to discerning customers of the fine Exigo Syndicate.

This thread makes me laugh for a myriad of reasons.

Wait hold on, placing a player in hostile does not always equate to pvp. I have been known to at times 'hostile' everyone especially when hanging around at a campfire specifically when theres people standing next to me. Simply for the sole purpose of getting an attack of opportunity - punch at anyone casting a spell near me, or running past. Which can simply be played off icly as you 'attempting to trip as they ran by' or shoving them as they murmured a spell. (The particular character that did this was a sour puss, who didnt like people casting spells near him.)

Simply because someone is glowing red on your screen does it mean said individual has the intent of ending your file.

If you read my original post, that is exactly what I mentioned as being fine, but potentially requiring some explanation to a new people.

Yeah, you've 'hostile'ed me before with your duelist just to get a reaction. I must say it works very well :0
