Archers Again get the Shaft

I've played an archer or two, and I see it this way.

Magic arrow that adds maybe 1-2 damage a shot= 1300 gp
Normal arrow = 6gp a stack

Someone made to be a good archer is going to kill mobs in the same number of arrows 80% of the time, weather or not those arrows are magic or regular, so just use the regular arrows that most basic weapon merchants sell for 6 gold a stack, You will earn a lot more gold off mobs, and kill them about as fast. Oh, and remember, group with a friendly caster. Wizards need you as much as you need them, and Wizards with GMW are an archers best friend, since that spell DOES work on bows.

You remember correctly. When I bring a bard and someone with gmw along with my archer, good things happen.

i think you can craft 198 arrows for about 5-7 gold (cost of molds and plans not included) but it takes so much fatigue just to get the components, or a lot of time talking to the difrent people that can it really is not worth the tiny saveing, and if the PCs charge you for the goods it may not be cheeper at all.

495 adamantine arrows cost 1 adamantine ingot, 5 wooden planks and 75 gold to make.

That's approximately 5 pts of fatigue for the resources.

The fire and acid arrows are cheaper (they require no ore), but I believe I remember reading the recipe might be bugged.


It might take a while before the crafting system is revised, but time invested in tweaking the current one will essentially become a waste in the long run. Hence it's not happening.

i was thinking the normal arrows, 1 iron and 1 plank = 2 staks of 99.

now the wood and iron can sometimes be found in the tradeing post but gettign it there would make the normal arrows cheeper in the shops.

still it looks like the best arrow makeing saveing needs a wookcuttign skill of 5 and mineing skill of 20 or the knolage of people with such skills.

You make arrowheads for 5 stacks with 1 iron, and need 1 plank for every stack. So that's 1 iron and 5 planks for 5 stacks.

Archers are getting the shaft because bows aren't set EB in alot of cases that they should be. I've made efforts to get that property working but it was bugged before where it's not now. Some bows may still be AB only but they should be EB.

Archers are supposed to mainly focus on standard arrows and get damage bonus from the bow. This works perfectly and I tested it. The arrows with plus to damage STACK with EB.

What needs to happen is someone go through all the bows and make sure they reflect this.

Yes. This was bugged since NWN1 and I threw a fit on the forums about it to obsidian and they fixed it for me. I even tested it.

I can review the shops and change up the bows then.

Cool, not saying no bows should have AB, but EB is needed for more than just damage too, like penetrating DR on some creatures. Like if you have a silver arrow and an EB +1 bow, you can blast vampires.

dame its been so long since i did any proper crafting i seem to have forgoten a lot. but i still think it is a lot of hassle to save 5 gold

Crafting is A LOT of work and often as expensive or sometimes even more expensive than just buying stuff.

The one thing that keeps it even slightly viable is that you can create custom looks.
