Maybe a stupid question, but how does one disable or hold an (immune to paralysis/mind effecting) vampire if we make them immune to petrification?

Subdual mode:Have your buddy keep bashing them in the head/ribs with a shovel as you drive the stake in? :P
EDIT add for the ninja: Undead are immune to mind affecting. Hold spells (including hold monster) are mind affecting spells. And while entangle may root their feet in spot, I wouldn't want to go near them.

Can you subdue vampires? I thought they just turned to mist and F'ed off back to their coffins if brought to 0 HP.Originally posted by Lothoir View PostSubdual mode:Have your buddy keep bashing them in the head/ribs with a shovel as you drive the stake in? :P

You can subdual them, but they have regen 5 so if you leave them they just get back up.

And thanks for the sending adjustment. Clive once found freshly killed people in the Banite graveyard. Dragged their bodies to a far off the beaten path location and rezed them so he could have some non-violent RP only to have a mob show up and smear him across the landscape.

I'm not sure the fear effect on garlic/holy symbol thing is really necessary. Vampires are not afraid of garlic, they just recoil from it. Forcing a fear effect on them takes away their ability to RP, since fear takes away control of your character.
Also, what exactly does staking mean for a vampire in this particular case? Insta-death and back to the coffin?The poetry that comes from the squaring off between;
and the circling is worth it, finding beauty in the dissonance.

Encounters in viridale: will they scale? Will they be spawning ANYwhere on the map?
I foresee my level 20 Druid walking through the forest (because it's the only route, since there is no way to bypass the Viridale Fortwhichshereallyneverevereverwouldpassthroughonh erwayhome *hint hint*) - spawning things and not being aware of it, and then someone walks through to get to Mossclaw meet before they are cleaned up...Annaleen Wiltenholm-There's always something to smile about.
Chani Kalera- Intimidation is the new diplomacy. *looms*
Eleanor "Bloody Elle" Lark - Why is the rum always gone?
Yolanda Brown - If life gives you lemons, make lemonade. But unless life also gives you water and sugar, your lemonade is going to suck.
Astrid Hammerhand - Och!

Also, what exactly does staking mean for a vampire in this particular case? Insta-death and back to the coffin? The effect will not be more than a round. Which is enough to get the point across. To NPCs they'll just move away from the garlic. For PCs you'll get a warning which will warn the vampire "Yo, something stinks like garlic." If they decide to stay in the area of it, they'll get feared away from the garlic's origin, that's when they'll be forced away. Essentially, if you decide to ignore warnings, that's your butt.Repelling a Vampire: Vampires cannot tolerate the strong odor of garlic and will not enter an area laced with it. Similarly, they recoil from a mirror or a strongly presented holy symbol. These things don’t harm the vampire—they merely keep it at bay. A recoiling vampire must stay at least 5 feet away from a creature holding the mirror or holy symbol and cannot touch or make melee attacks against the creature holding the item for the rest of the encounter. Holding a vampire at bay takes a standard action.
HOWEVER, I'm thinking this effect won't work so well outdoors. It's hard to contain a scent in a wide open area or take tons more of the stuff to work. Still debating that. And I think on a windy/stormy day it shouldn't work at all.
As for the holy symbol obviously if you're not in the 5 ft range it won't do anything, but if you are you have to get out of it. Since it's a standard action people won't be able to use it to kite you because they can't do anything for 6 seconds either, just keep you away.
Stakes I'm still working out the mechanics on how I want it to work. It's supposed to put the vampire in torpor which is like subdualed until the stake is pulled out. For NPCs I plan to just have them killed outright, it fits with the creatures being made. COnsider it a coup de grace. For PCs I'm imagining it leaves a corpse with the stake item, if it is taken off the body the body is resurrected (Allies can then aid the vampire). However, this allows for people to honor normal resurrection rules as vampires still, AKA, PVP death they're free to respawn from in so much time being dead. This way we don't have the "Permed you by leaving you in the sun" bit.
In the future, we may be putting in a coffin system for vampires where they always return at it's placing and can move it and such instead of respawning at strange locations.

Because of how the spawn system works, I can make it where your spawns disappear faster than the cleanup script. But trust me, if you run through viridale and spawn something YOU'LL BE AWARE OF IT!Originally posted by Verrath View PostEncounters in viridale: will they scale?
