I'd say you could join Ursus in the Thayan group...

      But why? :P

The Legion seems to have the highest player base at this moment. Black Hand and Blackwood look to be close. Most of the others are kinda slim on the active player front as far as I have seen.

The factions are up and down, all the time.

In the time I've been on Sundren, I think I've sampled most of them at some point or another, and through-out that time experienced their member highs and lows.
I can tell you honestly that I've seen as much DM interaction and event movement when it was a one man faction as if it were a five man.

Getting into an active faction isn't all that terrific, because honestly, those other members are likely only there part-time while they cruise around on alts or live too much in the real world.
Which I'm not saying is bad, but I wouldn't make their activity a major point for why I'm joining.

I'd advise going for whatever faction feels best for your character personally, and just representing the faction as you know how.
Some of the major characters on Sundren have started out solo in a faction and ended up paving the way for a significant interested memberbase.

My favorite faction remains a non-official one.
          The church of Kelemvor.
It offers enough variety that you dont have to play it exactly as someone else might.
This is true for most other factions and some temples.
Play it, experience what the world thinks of it, then change their minds or reinforce the concept.
"Sir, we're surrounded!" "Excellent! Now we can attack in any direction."

Join whatever faction seems most appealing to you and your character. If you want to join the Legion, then we would be more than happy to have you aboard. If you want to join the Eboncoins or the Veritas or the Black Hand, then I look forward to RPing with you as an adversary. Joining a faction is not the be-all-and-end-all of your RP.

If you play a female char then stay away from the corps. Cirion willl just add you to his harem and never let you leave again

                        Hey,

Thanks for all the welcoming recruiting, it is good to see there are lots of active factions to choose from. There are a few that I'm uncertain how you even would join, like the Cartel, they are thieves, so I wouldn't even know where to find them. I know, I need to RP around and eventually I might figure it out.

I do have an alt so I will join more than one faction. I have a couple of questions, unless they are too much of a spoiler:

Once you join a faction, can you leave and join another?

I do have a mage and was trying to join the university, but the prof always says he has a class to teach. Is there some level you have to reach to break in, or does he say this indefinitely? Most of the factions seem to not be mage oriented, except the Thayans but I'm not going for that build.

Also, are the Corpse a good aligned faction then? Do you have to be good to join?

Also, I don't mind joining a faction with few active players, but I figure it would be nice to have some base to RP off of.

The Corps de Grace accepts all good-aligned character, as well as some types of neutral-aligned guys.

The main list of Sundren factions can be found here

But if you wish to join the university or such, you'd likely have to ask a DM for help via a character request since it isn't an actual faction. Besides just RP value, it could possibly be of use in DM events. But for the most part you won't gain anything big from it, no faction store, no player characters to currently give or take tasks from.

Also, one character can only join one of the main factions shown in the link from above, due to how the faction system works. Though nothing will stop you from working with multiple faction, that is all good. And finally, while you can join a faction and leave it for another, it'd require a DM to help you do so.

Hey Cirion, thanks for the reply. Ah, I didn't realize the university was not a faction. Thanks. I will look for you in game, though I do want to RP my way in, not just run up and join out of nowhere.
