Poor RP is rampant and I can only hope Philo's post inspires better... I could give two steaming piles if toons run about in npc areas when noone is around, naked with hoods on and deaders in tow. Life is too short to walk from trans to trans when there is nobody there but ones and zeros.

But as bedlam mentioned when laws/codes/rituals are BLATANTLY disregarded when others are around....

Resting during an CvC encounter. (regardless if "my character is an ass, he would do that") RESTING TAKES 8 HOURS!!!! you don't rest during a DM event unless the DM says okay... why do it when there is no DM?

Ignoring player/character requests to follow local rules and/or laws.

EXAMPLE: (I know this one no longer applies) Running in to the grove with metal armor on, to buy from the keeper. Player tells you to remove your metal. You say IC "well the keeper doesn't seem to mind he is taking my coin just fine." Try the with a DM on! I dare you. when explained again with "my character is an ass he would just do that."

Ignoring other characters In game because and I quote "my character is and ass he would just ignore you."

If you character is an ass FINE but RP it!

*disregards protocol and talks to the legion goon with his mask on*

rolls eyes at dying dwarf and continues talking nonchalantly. "Lot's of fodder for the grave round these parts."

*begins resting and pulls out a tome to study spells* ///Is is okay if I rest or would you interject?///

Use your emotes, say something snarky, otherwise it is not your "character" that is the ass...

I have read all of these posts with genuine interest. I am new to the server and have made some of the mistakes being discussed. The first was walking into the Second Wind Inn with a hood on. I was immediately approached and challenged. The RP that followed was short and intense… but a lot of fun. I learned from the encounter and act appropriately now. The second encounter was teaming with a Necro who spawned a skeleton fighter while in Viridale. This was witnessed by another character as we walked through a transition point… this led to a good ten minutes of RP that ended in a PvP subdual. Here again I thought the encounter was great RP and I learned a lot from it, like how Disarm and Improve Disarm works in PvP. I had my ass handed to me but I do not regret the encounter. In both instances I was involved in scenarios where I did not follow the laws of Sundren. But this led to some great role play with other characters. These encounters were handled in character, which is why I spend as much time playing on this server as my job and family permit.

I have been involved in RP that has been less than satisfying too. In these instances no Sundren laws were being broken that I know of. People were just being assholes. I group these encounters into three general categories. First, if you make smart ass comments to another character and don’t support your actions with RP, then you are just being an ass. Second, if you are running ahead of a party shouting “someone is moving over here…” while stealth’ed in order to hit all of the loot points, then you are just being an ass. And lastly, if you spawn everything running to a loot point but don’t clean up the area, then you are just being an ass. Don't be an ass.

      Cheers!

This is a Sundren mod put in with the Invisibility Spell. For exactly the reasons you mentioned - to prevent level 3 wizards from going around invis doing vera, vera, naughty things.

If you see that emote, that means an invisible cat is nearby. RP as you see fit.

Another pet peeve also is vampires, tieflings, half-orcs, and such just roaming the server like its no big deal and then getting upset when someone doesn't like them, doesn't talk to them, or is hostile to them. Guess what, most people don't like you and a lot of races will actually merely attack and try to kill you rather than talk to you - not withstanding the Anderson Act.
Really? My pet peeve is that no-one seems to dislike vampires, teiflings, orcs, or half-orcs. I see elves and orcs throwing back microbrews and discussing the weather; LG clerics giving tieflings back-rubs. Most attempts to RP the pervasive and logical racism thats directed toward evil races is met with a group of PCs goings: "That's racist, bro. GTFO."

Well i,ll first say that after a few months playing here I must tell you the world of sundren is quite fun. but after reading a few of these last post i notice that perhaps some just need to lighten up. As some would sudgest if the Dm's witness such crimes like wearing a mask in a city, well a enforcement should ensue but if players start sending private message saying to take off the hood ain't that a little pushed too far? Take in the account that not all players are playing this like a Religion going mass on a Sunday morning some have hard day's work and etc etc..not every one knows D&D rules by heart.as for being a good Rp player, nobody starts something and flips a switch to say tadaa!! i'm a great Rp player. We all start life sucking at it! Dont beleive me? ask your mom or dad
Mom should point to the two nearest assets you ruined and dad will agree. :P

On the comment of realism, here a real story seriously!
I work security for a joint, Should i meet people coming with mask on eh? You better believe i got to face it dead on or be smart and get the cops on the phone before. but after my shift, I'm off duty and if i go looking for trouble for nothing i'll just get banged up or worse get shot or stabbed, nope got a little boy waiting for me back home best i could do is indicate to a cop cruiser about a UFO.
"UFO"Common name given to shit disturbers or mentally i'll roamers.
anyway i had the pleasure to game with many of old and new players i,ll go with the 'God beast' and the others on the matter.
anyway folks cheers and enjoy life.
There is another realm, a space, a wordless mixture of melancholy and exstacy... a taste in the mind. not success or failure; but tales of strengh, glimpses of beauty, moments of depth between beings reveal our lives

I tend to react In Character. "Oh, man, I forgot I had my undead pet with me" doesn't fly. You, the player, might have honestly forgotten, but my character saw a zombie in a trenchcoat and fake mustache, and he simply does not tolerate such macabre silliness.

Justice, racism, bah... abstracts. Make characters with more simple motivations, like gold.

"You filthy disgusting subhuman filth half-orc, why would I want to deal with you at all?"
"Here's five gold, shut up and we can make eachother more by killing things."
"Five gold is five hundred years of racial prejudice forgotten, half-orc. Let's get to making more money then, friend."
                    "You don't have any friends."
"True, but I've got people who pay me to act like I do."

Al had his ass kicked for wearing metal in the grove, once.

                        Heh. Wont do that again.

Ok...I'm on a rant.... I really really thought this server was PG-13. I can understand a few curse words here and there but to drop the f bomb over and over again? Don't some of these people realize that there are people on here that are not over the age of 18? If its not a PG-13 server anymore then it needs to be stated somewhere in the rules or such.
There is a fine line between genius and insanity.....I have replaced that line with a trout!!

It is in the rules under "Sexual and Offensive Situations"

It states: Sundren is a mature-content server

                            Link: http://www.sundren.org/wiki/index.ph...ive_Situations

After the game, the king and the pawn go into the same box.

Drek sounds far classier than the alternatives.
Running across the mountains, attacking with an oversized scalpel, cometh Helga Great-Wyrm! And she gives a mighty bellow:
"Brace yourself, oh human speck of dust! You are made of meat and I am very hungry!"

Since this RP etiquette oriented, and I saw this in the rules thread GreyPawn put up:

"Death from PVP will result in a memory loss unless the victim is raised or resurrected by another character at the location of their death immediately following the PVP event. Players may not contact other players OOCly for a resurrection, especially to retain memory of the conflict. Players who use a signus or respawn from the FEN lose all memory of the conflict and events leading up to it that might "finger" the villain. The purpose of this is so assassins and murders don't have their dead targets coming back and ratting them out. Respawning is a courtesy that should not cost our characters in-character consequences."

I've been told (from a DM) that a signus entitles you the same benefits as if a player had raised you on the spot following the confrontation - ie, you retain your memory- and I've witnessed a few players use their signus on a CvC death just for this benefit.

                                The rules state otherwise.

Clarification? I understand that it's written (i read, copy, pasted it, even highlighted it) but I've had DM's tell me the opposite.
