Really? Zoning ends pvp? How does this effect my character in game? Some reason I have to justify my character not continuing a persuit into a tavern because his foe zoned. Would a cop stop if a bank robber who shot his partner went inside of a building? I can understand not attacking someone until they have loaded the next area, and have a chance to act... Meta gaming rules for meta gaming situations... But to stop someone with in character reason with out of character rules is plain stupid. I purpose the rules be altered to prevent attack during zoning but continued once both players have loaded and have a chance to react. The rules state pvp can't be refused, but this meta gaming zoning rule prevents it.

I'm fine with removing the rule or altering it. I believe the rule is poorly written. It was never meant to be that a person who zones one area away is untouchable. It was meant to stop people from using area transitions to their advantage to buff/heal/rest then come back and re-initiate the PvP.-A player who flees through an area transition has left the conflict. When this occurs, the PVP event is considered over. You may use tells to ask the flee-er if they wish to continue the conflict. You may start a new PVP event if you encounter this person again later, but a reasonable amount of time must pass between these events (unless both players consent to continue). Never use the Follow tool or the Player Finder to track them downOriginally posted by SaulusStop playing other shitty MMOs and work on Sundren, asshole.

I've always figured common sense dictated that if a character zoned to, say, the area just down the road, the pursuit should continue, but the characters should distance themselves from each other about the same as they were before the transition happened, then continue the pursuit. Though that requires a bit of OOC time out, and sometimes it's just better to keep running. I usually load faster than most, so I give them a head start when that happens.
If one of the characters use a World Map transition though, I'd think saying the character has fled is reasonable and you can then consider the pvp event over. Though you could make use of Track or the Locate Creature spell to continue chasing him, which would require consent for the former.Raman Aseph - Runescarred Berserker

I have to agree with Mad seer... Although if pvp can't be refused, and the pursuing player has track or magic there should be no choice... If the skill or spell is a success then the other character would be refusing pvp at that point, thus voiding rules. Co-operation yes... More of a gray area there then walking into a tavern because running would provoke an attack of opportunity to zone to safety so one doesn't die is meta gaming.

I'm happy to see the rule modified, as Cornuto says it's origional intention was to prevent people from zoning away, buffing up and hoping right back.
The rule was also written when we had a lot less interconnecting zones, with areas such as the Pioneers Way there should be more room for folk peruing across zone borders.
There is, of course, always going to be a bit of an issue with computer speeds, some people will zone faster than others. On that score some co-operation would be required between the players.
As always, discussion betweens players tends to resolve most problems, so long as it's intelligent and polite - If you want to chase someone with the current rules, it does say send them a message.
Communicate politely and you'll often find people are open to suggestions. It is the greatest of all mistakes to do nothing because you can only do a little - Do what you can.

Totally agree that meta gaming issues require meta gaming rules. Zoning to run only to have a slower computer then the other person shouldn't cost your characters life. This isn't a first person shooter... Maybe some better wording with that rule would best.

I think the rule is find but perhaps whoever you dealt with needed a better understanding. If its at the campfire outside the Inn, and they flee into the Inn, that (in my opinion) isn't an "area transition". Something like Crossroads to Sundren City is.
I've been "followed" around the map by PCs trying to flee a bad PvP moment long time ago in Sundren using game mechanics and such... that isn't "fun" either.

Running away can be perfectly IC. As stated before, a quick, polite tell to the player before getting riled up and putting it on the forum can work wonders and ease tempers on both sides.
Don't always assume the worst, many times the players do have a legit reason for what they have their characters do - and things can usually be settled without undue stress for the players (if not the characters), if you bother to ask them.

Yes, but going from a location without NPC's to one with NPC's in a PvP scene should definitely be notified to the DM's. I really doubt that Otto and Jack are just going to watch as a half-orc attacks a human inside their pub. It seemed logical to me that the fight wouldn't be chased into the building because that will only cause a much big encounter in a much smaller space.Presea De'Ombre - Fist of the Broken

Yeah, they definitely wouldn't. And you don't want to mess with either Jack or Otto. I know of someone who decided to cast dispel magic as an out of character thing inside the inn and was turned to stone by Jack.Originally posted by Tamha View PostYes, but going from a location without NPC's to one with NPC's in a PvP scene should definitely be notified to the DM's. I say if they're running away, let them. Do you really have to hunt them down and kill them, then leave them stuck as a corpse in the fugue? Does that add to RP more than letting them continue to live? I'll bet that nine times out of ten, it dosen't.
If they're running away, you've won the fight. They ran through fear for their life, and hence shouldn't be doing things to incur your wrath any time soon.Running across the mountains, attacking with an oversized scalpel, cometh Helga Great-Wyrm! And she gives a mighty bellow:
"Brace yourself, oh human speck of dust! You are made of meat and I am very hungry!"

Player A: "Okay, your character ran, my character is following."
Player B: (possibly after some rolls to determine tracking, spot, whatever you agree on) "Okay, I went to (some place else), you (won/lost) your roll so you (caught/didn't catch) me"
Simple, eh?
Of course the rolls could still be cheated unless a DMis watching, but you'll find that those truly interested in RP will go along just fine, while those not interested - are best left alone anyway.

I was involved in a PvP where my "boss" told me to run while he held off the bad guys; they chased her from the armoury all the way to the border, where she reported people working with the Orcs... they walked by the entire garrison invisible/stealth and tried to dominate her from behind (dominate doesn't break invisibility after all
... something else that should be looked at - like bandages not breaking stealth but I digress)
It does say you can continue the PvP if you catch them later (I don't think that later that day should be counted against the 2 week latency period).Bree - Bookkeeper and diplomat of Exigo.

Okay, as the original inventor of the rule, let me explain:
The rule was meant for World Transitions when enacted. The idea you chase someone for miles with a sword waving was pretty ridiculous. Early Sundren didn't have many joining areas.
If you're fighting and the guy run in a barn, go get him. If you're fighting and the guy runs from Argyle Keep to Sundren Gates? That's a different matter.
