Don't worry, you're not alone. My primary character alone has lost enough xp due to death to take himself to level 20 at least two or three times by now.

If you're not with a group, your best option would be to have a "plan B" for when things go bad, mine is to make sure I have a 6 pack of inviso potions.

Being aware of WHERE you can go can help too. Very few people fight lizards or trek up the mountains, but there's stuff all over the place to kill that may not be the obvious. For example, depending on your class Bandits might be easier for you than someone else in Aquor areas.

I'm not sure what level you are, though.

Stuff that. I've found there's Demonflesh Zombies!

Me and a few allies can kill two at a time if we're lucky. But hell it's more fun and challenging than pwning goblins.
Running across the mountains, attacking with an oversized scalpel, cometh Helga Great-Wyrm! And she gives a mighty bellow:
"Brace yourself, oh human speck of dust! You are made of meat and I am very hungry!"

          RAWWWWWRG! MUH ZOMBAYS!

I figured someone would pwn them at a lower level. They're undead after all WEll, outsider/undead.

They're fun, though. It's 'Oh, crap, two at once, you set defensive fighting, I'll run around, throw some axes, try a knockdown, heal, etc' rather than 'steamroll.... steamroll.... rest... steamroll...'

I'd rather die a hero fighting zombie demon legions than live killing goblins.

Oh yeah and then they bust out that one in 400 chance of dual nat 20's on you and it's like a bus hit you as hard it could then stopped, the driver gets out and staples your corpse ot the bumper and drives into a lampost leaving your badly broken body wrapped around it.

Heh. It wasn't that bad but man, crits from those guys do not play games!

Hey, my AC isn't enough that they NEED dual nat crits.

I have no regrets. Losing some XP and Gold is a small price to pay for being able to claim about five demon zombie kills.

I think if I see any zombie with a name more impressive than 'Guard' or 'Archer', I'm fleeing.

Er... Sorry to bump, but this is now happening again. As a level 11, with a grouped, allied level 7-ish Ranger ally, I died fighting Ogres. They're now apparently so weak that I only deserve 8 XP for killing one, but I die nonetheless. This was after I died to the first group of Cartel on a mountain, who granted 8 XP each, too.

Any suggestions for where I can take a group that dosen't involve a caster without dying, and still gain XP?

Not involving a caster is going to pin you back a lot; there is a reason there are so many of them around, they're darn useful. I suspect maybe that Helga is a bit of a charger? Which is always a bad idea, if you're not prepared (lets face it Rangers are good at support more than they are as full blow fighters ). You're stuck for a bit with small amounts of xp I'd think until you either make friends with a caster or spend a lot of money on potions of all sorts. I'd suggest the Naga, but you have to get by Cartel to get to them; or Demon Zombies... or Slitherscale.

She used to be a charger, but after repeatedly dying from that I've even given up on trying to do that in combat and holding them at doors, and being as careful as possible.

I suppose playing a melee non-mage who has IC reason to dislike casters at first meeting is kind of suicide. :P

Demon Zombies I can kill a few before needing to run, and needing to run if I get more than one on me at a time.

Can't get past the Cartel, they kill me suprisingly fast and I can't get hold of invisibility stuff.

Slitherscale I don't know about, other than the scouts who are in the sewers and give no XP.

I was thinking of making the suggestion that XP from lower-CR monsters not drop off quite so fast to help those who kind of have to solo a lot and don't have the power in their character to kill anything strong.

The later areas of the server have always been designed with a balanced group in mind. Some classes area strong enough to solo these areas anyways. Its inevitable, unfortunately, and the primary reason why so many play spellcasters, especially clerics and favored souls. At high levels these classes are effectively self-sustainable. No noncaster can possibly do these later areas of the server without magical backup, unless they are significantly higher than the area and even then only maybe.

The server does not condemn soloing efforts, but likewise does it not support it either. The primary tagline has always been "group up."
                              The poetry that comes from the squaring off between;
and the circling is worth it, finding beauty in the dissonance.

I think a melee character who has entire IC backing to dislike almost all casters by default, may have been a bad idea.

                                :P

I do try to group up whenever possible, but I only seem to get one every week or so (and by that I mean 'More than one other person who will team up with me')
