Undetectable Alignment--does it exist here?

For the sake of PW fairness, it's usually best to have an IC reason to Detect Evil.
I think of it like the equivalent of a cop pulling someone over to check that they've got a drivers license.
You'll only get pulled over if you're driving oddly, or they have a reason to suspect you, if said cop is LG.
That said, if said paladin detects evil and finds it, they have every reason to smite your ass on the spot for it. Most Paladins stick out like sore thumbs, and are obviously paladins. If you're evil, keep the hell away from them.Running across the mountains, attacking with an oversized scalpel, cometh Helga Great-Wyrm! And she gives a mighty bellow:
"Brace yourself, oh human speck of dust! You are made of meat and I am very hungry!"

If only people like Kevin existed. Instead it's, "Hi! I'm dark and mysterious. i might be good or evil, the important thing is that I have a hood and a cape on. Aren't I a special snowflake?"Originally posted by Doubtful View Post"Hi! I'm kevin, I'm new here and wondered if you'd be my friend?"
The other alternative is, "Hi, I'm James. I'd like to eat your soul. It will only hurt for a minute."
Seriously. What is in the water around here? And why do all of the halflings seem to drink a double-helping of it?

Bah, Sago doesn't want your soul, or wear a cape to be mysterious. He just wants your gold, to look good, and to make sure you *never* forget the most awesomest bandit evar.Sago Trumperstomper--Halfling Bandit (retired)

Well, yeah, but that's probably because he'll get more gold or safety from the act

Becky Dragonhin - Sword of the Loyal Fury, Knight of the Triad... the only Good hin in Sundren???
Cybil Gelley (Retired)
Perry Turnipfodder - aspiring talent, happy chronicler.

Yeah, the majority of the halflings I've met are good aligned. If I remember correctly, though, it's only the Stronghearts who tend to be lawful. Of course, I'm betting just about all the hin are stronghearts, what with the free feat and all.
At least Sago has a decent strongheart upraising, following their typical martial disposition

If the person just stole apples and a purse, if they set themselves evil alignment, they deserve to get smited by a paladinOriginally posted by Maevan2 View PostI sense evil on you. You'd better run before i kill you in the name of all that is good.
But i just stole some apples and this purse...
Shut up you evil bastard! *smites the poor shady guy with his greatsword*
I don't think people realize just how evil having evil in your alignment actually is.

Why look! A god of thieves that isn't even evil
Aladdin stole from all kinds of people, and he's not evil. It takes a devious person whether intention or not, to be evil. I'd say if you don't want to be smited by a paladin, don't roll evil, that's just my point of view.
Anyway, thanks for reminding me that I have to fix the paladin detect code to match the detect undead code. It's using the code I wrote over a millennium ago.

Holy crap, for real? Daaaaamn, that'd be amazing if Detect Evil worked like Detect Undead. Also, any chance you could get rid of the whole, 'RAISE DA ROOF!' animation that's coupled with Detect Evil?
I always feel embarrassed using the ability, because of that animation. Sometimes you get tells, "What the hell were you doing there?"

Most of the time when I meet new people, they assume I must want to eat their heart simply because I'm a halfling.
It's all part of an intimidation tactic right? You have to mess with their minds...Originally posted by RedI always feel embarrassed using the ability, because of that animation. Sometimes you get tells, "What the hell were you doing there?"

Jumping in a bit late on this conversation, but I thought I might give my two cents and see what the official interpretation of a Paladins Detect Evil ability is. It was and has been of course discussed at length in official 3.0/3.5 articles etc and if I remember correctly, the intent was something like this;
Detect Evil is meant to be used towards supernatural evil. This is, beings that are inherently charged with evil essence/power/etc. These would be undead beings, outsiders of evil alignment, and powerful creatures that fall outside those two categories that are also inherently evil. Mortal beings, do not typically have an "Aura" of evil detectable by this power, with the exception of Clerics as they are a conduit of their gods power and are thus tainted. Evil artifacts and other things charged with foul energy are detectable as well.
An "Alternate" extension of this was to include the above listed criteria in addition to being able to detect evil intent. This last matter is difficult to adjudicate of course, but I think most people would be pretty honest. Bill the hired thug is a less than moral character, but a Paladin would not detect evil from him. He is merely a mortal being. Now if he came to said pub with the intent to kill someone in it, a paladin just might, perhaps, detect a faint aura of evil coming from him.
Now, I do not know what the standard accepted interpretation of the server is, but I thought it worth voicing what I think was the intent of the ability, which was not to make paladins the metal detector equivalent for naughtiness but rather a mortal charged by their gods with sniffing out and eliminating supernatural evil before it can corrupt the rest of us silly mortals.
Additionally, while I think beings of supernatural evil that are discovered by a Paladin surely have a bad day coming in their immediate future, it may not always be the case for others. If, for example, it's ruled that the Paladin can detect evil of any kind, anywhere, we must remember that Paladins are lawful creatures bound to a code by their god. In the previous example, to smite Bill because you sniff some evil in his heart would be murder, an act that should see a paladin stripped of his powers until he atones for his own evil act, if his god deems it possible. The paladin might be suspicious of him from that point forward of course, but he must act within the law.
Just my two cents.
