It be nice for people have backstory indeed, i normaly hate playing classes that so highly filled (Cough) Clerics (Cough). I found myself enjoying my character's backround i made to head into the feild of MoR, quite frankly i didn't really want log off after 5 hours.

Yes, buy you have to understand, that the class isn't about undead, so much as becomming a vessel for myrkul and having a connection with his essence as stuff. I could see the idea of godship being the reason for the requirement.

His Godship is even more reason to have Knowledge: Religion, IMO.

A quick glance at the overview of the skills may provide some answer as to the who/why of Knowledge:Planes

Like the Craft and Profession skills, Knowledge actually encompasses a number of unrelated skills. Knowledge represents a study of some body of lore, possibly an academic or even scientific discipline.

Below are listed typical fields of study.
Religion (gods and goddesses, mythic history, ecclesiastic tradition, holy symbols, undead)
The planes (the Inner Planes, the Outer Planes, the Astral Plane, the Ethereal Plane, outsiders, elementals, magic related to the planes)

The easiest way to look at is that to call upon the powers of the Horned Harbringer the character must learn to channel the inter-planer connection to the Crown and to Myrkul - this is achieved through understanding the nature of the planes, and the magic relating to them.

Once this link has been achieved and channelled then the Harbringer is free to study matters both arcane and ecclesiastical.
