    Group / No Group

Some people just don?t get it when they occasionally fail to get into a group. This is an RP server and now and then you will not get group no matter what. That does not automatically make you or the other person wrong nor does it make anyone a grinder, etc.

A group of four elves get together in Viridale. We wander through Viridale, dispatch a few gnolls and end up near the Mossclaw Meet. We engage in Role Play for what seems like quite a while before we take any action. Eventually, we attack the fort, kill a few gnolls and goblins whereby the server crashes, thus losing all gains.

The server reboots and we resume where we left off. Now, I am not the one to port into an enemy fort so I go the long way. I enter Viridale, fight a few gnolls and some human approaches me. Very little RP ensues? he makes some comment about good fighting and then immediately asks me if I am going to the Mossclaw Fort. I say I am headed to the fort to join my friends and he asks to join me. I tell him I would have him along but the decision is up to my friends. He leaves in a huff. A few seconds later he messages me with some garbage about me being a grinder.

Well, this guy has NO CLUE. Usually, I invite anyone with a pulse to my group. I am trying to be inclusive but also trying to avoid conflict. Well, I am with a group of elves who can be very exclusive ? particularly in Viridale Forest. They do not necessarily want a lot of non-elves around on their quest to rid Viridale of Gnolls, etc. Also, I am already late rejoining my group. Unfortunately, I do not have the time break RP to explain to him that I am with a freaky elf group who does not want humans on a mission they see as their own or that he must continue to tag along to plead his case with the others. I left it up to him whether he wants to run through Viridale Forest to attempt to join the group. He chose to leave and that should have been the end of it.

Later, another player informed me that this guy had previously been banned for a while, presumably due to some behavioral problem.

This is only a game where we Role Play and have fun. Forming groups can enhance the interaction between characters. However, at times you simply will not get group. You may not get group because you do not RP your way into the group. Occasionally, factors beyond your knowledge or control, make it quite unlikely or impossible that you will get group. This also happens in real life. Somebody may rush off and not explain the situation to you. Don?t take it personally. Don?t insult the others. Just move on to have fun elsewhere.

    Sorry for the long post.

What I used to do on my previous server (and will do here if the situation presents itself) is simply say as I run past: (( OOC: returning to where I was before the crash. ))

Most intelligent people will understand. Those that don't are not worth the hassle. It's a succinct way for the other player to know that he or she is not being excluded.

Yeah, that was me, Im not afraid to come out and say it. Your like the second person to post something solely on 1-2 sentances I've said today, lol. Apparently I have this dramatic effect on ppl, its truly flattering let me tell ya.

1st of all, you were hauling azz to the zones, hardly saying anything (hmm, looks like a grinder to me). You even made the person I was talking to think twice about heading in, she ended up leaving coz of that. So I decided to check things out and see if that was really your intention.

2nd of all, as far as making a comment about good fighting...ehh, no, I simply asked what you were doing in the forest. You said you were going to head to the rest of your friends up ahead, I asked to join and you shooed me away. I wasnt particulary in a good mood, so I made the comment as I left "((go ahead grinder))" and zoned....and that was that. No /tells, no messages...just that.

Now was I a bit out-of-line...mabe, but you did seem like you were in a rush for no reason. Even the person with me made the same assumption. Now as far as the person mentioning about me being banned? Yes, I was banned, for reasons I cant say for fear of angering certain ppl again. Lets just say it was a heat of the moment thing...that lasted 2 sentances...kinda silly to me.

There, I hope that explains everything

Calling someone a grinder is rather rude. Don't be rude to each other. Or happymoth will kill you.

                I have pulse, Invite me!

On a more serious note, I really do not see what the problem is with you not wanting to accept this person into your "Gang of scounders" ((ELVES!!)).

This also brings up the interesting question of how does one properly RP into a group that's probably going to do nothing but crack open goblin heads? I've always wondered... It seems like poor RP to go up to a group and say, "Hey, I'd like to farm gobbos with you!"

                    Just a few quick replies...

IKSDoomsday, I bow to you, Your Grindness. I can not even hope to achieve a mere fraction of your grinding renown.

VanillaRose, thanks for the (OOC:Returning to where I was before crash) suggestion.

Ichbin, hey it is no problem.

Giant Moth, I was quite surprised. But talking about it made it all ok. No need to have happymoth eat Ichbin... yet.

Belwas, you have a fairly strong pulse so no worries.

Anks, sure you are in. Every time you are on the server I will hunt you down to invite you... an invite stalker.

Abyss, that is a tough one. I find it easier to take the lead. Try this one... "Hey you guys, these gobbos stole my dog's chew toy. I suppose I will have to kill every last one of them to get it back. Would you mind lending me a hand?" Footnote: Page 63, Volume 5 of the Book of Grinding. Author: IKSDoomsday, AKA "Your Grindness" and "the God of Grinding"... Temple coming soon.

Thank you all for the comments,

I'm ranting alot lately, ahhh well. People seem to only listen to me if I put it bluntly.

Very poorly. I hate it soooooooooooo much how people try to get into groups. The three sentence invite into a party is pure bullshit.

                      "Hi, I'm Jake."

                      "Hi jake."

"Can I go with you into certain peril and death even though you have no idea what I can do?"

I don't know if any of you seen the movie Dumb and Dumber, but people walking up to my characters with the intent to grind basically remind me of the scene:

"Big Gulps, hey?" ".... .... ..." "Well, see ya later!"

It's like "WTF?" And when people point it out IC'ly, I just can't help but give XP. Because it seriously is rediculous. I wonder if these same people walk up to hunters in the woods.

"You going to kill deer? Can I come?"

Or maybe a guy and his girl are going to a movie.

"You're going to see 300? Can I come?"

It's like "Who the @#$@ are you?!" then these same people come to me "GodBeast! I RP all the time! How DARE you call me a grinder?!" Yeah, you do RP, and I don't mind giving you an E for Effort with your RP. E is not a failing grade, but I really can't imagine someone introducing themselves into a party that way without being a grinder deep down inside. Maybe they don't even realize it. And you can be the best RP'er in the world and still be a grinder.

Oh, and my favorite people are the ones who point out the irony. They drop hints IC'ly that the people who invited themselves with don't pick up on. And I just sit LOLLERCOASTERing all over my keyboard.

"Clarissa, myself, and this guy with no name are trying to..." and the guy doesn't even pick up on the fact he came with into certain death without even introducing himself

So yeah, if I am IC'ly telling people to F#$#$ off when I go on quests with my non-DM characters. Please, I beg you, call me a grinder. Prove you're even worse at RP by taking something that happens IC into OOC so I can push the ban button.
