  • Healing kits in the middle of combat?

Ok, I can understand people using healing kits on someone when they fall in combat, even when the chaos still ensues. But using them WHILE fighting someone, on yourself, just seems wrong... its sounds like a GROSSLY OOC action to me... Who has time to put on bandages while being whaled on with a greatsword, I'm meen geeez...

I want to get this out there because it is driving me nuts, and every time I PvP, people are using kits left and right... It is just unrealistic.

I honestly think this should be fixed one way or another, by either making using healing kits incur a penalty to dex during combat, or by simply making it against the rules

yeah well there is a penalty? It might not be as severe as you might wish but why you would call this an OOC action is *beyond me, when apparently the game mechanics have been accounted for. As for what a healing kit actually does I think you should think of it in a broader sense than actually putting on salve and bandaging. Let's say you take a action to pop that shoulder back into place or putting pressure to a wound in the crudest sense. That's why(atleast when I do it) I usually get 4hp when using a healing kit in combat :P

I support RSPK's point of view. Out of combat, you gain the benefit of a Take 20 action to bind your wounds - inside, it's a 1d20 roll. If something is done about the heal skill, then, the same would apply to skills like open lock and disable device.

Besides, if I may be so bold, I don't see how the usage of a heal kit impedes you and your character, Akitsuki. That greatsword of yours packs enough of a whallop to make the possible HP gain inconsequential.

A healing kit is an item and it happens to be significantly more expensive than a potion and not as easily used and of variable effect - especially in combat. Anyone using a healing kit over a scroll or a potion is probably desperate... or wants to recover from disease or poison.

So you're also against doing anything like casting spells with somatic components in combat? Because if you're in battle I doubt you have the time to wave your hands around while someones whacking at you with a greataxe? I think things are just fine the way they are. If we start nerfing one thing, pretty soon we're nerfing everything under the sun until no class or ability works right. You're also cutting off a major source of healing for fighters who badly need it. They don't have anything besides potions and kits to heal them, and this would tip the balance even MORE in favor of Clerics / Druids / Bards while making everyone else that much worse off. I'm very strongly against nerfing this.

I dont think healing kits or potions should be changed a bit either...there is already a penalty to use them in combat. In order to use them you need to cancel your attack. Usually by the time you do this and then use your kit/potion they hit you for more damage than it healed you.

That's the same as a potion; it also draws an aoo like a potion iirc, or it should. You also cannot take 20 while using it during combat.

Heal kits are basicly a different version of potions... I don't know why NWN just didn't fix potions to be usable on other PCs like the HCR rulesetting does... atm due to the bleeding script being broken, as well heal kits are the only means to revive a bleeding PC.

                            I totally agree.

Well its funny Aki , cause your character and my character were walking in the forest.. My character got her arse kicked by a swift swing from the chief and you healed her with a kit. I got up and kept fighting. I did , however take a couple rounds and acted as if she was getting her wits back together before battling again. However you healed her while a mob had you surrounded.

You didn't complain about that did you?

And Ichbin.. Please do not go around telling people in the server that they are acting retarded ( even if you are not pointing anyone out) or being Jack asses. No ones shite smells like roses..

I don't agree with you that there are loads of horrible players on this server..

To my knowledge it seemed that there a group of wonderful players at the festival on saturday and everybody was great.

                            That is what starts hostilities..

That goes for all you jerk offs... i mean.. folks..

Also, RSPK is correct in that healing kits are more than just a wad of bandage and some ointment. We're supposed to use our imaginations to think beyond the limit of game mechanics.
