  • Clarification: Unchallenging Areas

Recently, I posted regarding PVP and staying too long in unchallenging areas. I've clarified our view on this in the Rules section of the Wiki:
    http://www.sundren.org/wiki/index.ph...llenging_Areas

This rule is designed to create a challenging environment for everyone who plays. We don't want areas too easy for you, and we don't want them too hard, either. High level characters create unfair match-ups for lower levels.

We don't discourage PVP based upon level disparity. If you have IC reason to get into PVP, please engage in it, no matter the level of your opponent. But, we don't want to present situations where you're likely to encounter an unchallenging situation for PVP. We have limited areas for low-levels to "level up," and they have few options for going around them. As such, we want to keep them relatively free of potential high-level problems.

In addition to PVP, high-levelers in an area can:
    • Spawn too many hostiles for the lowbies
    • Buff up lowbies to make the area way too easy
However, you are allowed to go through these areas once-per-day for IC reasons. Patrolling the forest as a druid and mining a cave are all acceptable IC reasons.

If you do this, you may not go over the same patrol grounds over-and-over. Go into the area once, make your round, and then leave. You may return the next day.

Additionally, you may go through areas if they lead to other areas as your final destination. Going through the Viridale fort to reach the Druid Glade makes perfect sense. Again, please don't linger in or patrol the low-level forest nearby repetitively.

    Thanks for understanding--

PL, you once gave me a warning (with the whole forum interface being used and all for a point penalty) about my character making a patrol in the Viridale Forest, to eventually strike at the Grimaxe orcs.

This is something I did occasionally, but only up to a maximum of once a day, and you came down pretty hard on me. If this is a clarification, then I end up never having actually broken it.

There was this other time I recall where you warned me away from the Viridale while I was there killing dire animals until they dropped leather pelts I needed to give someone for crafting purposes.

So, basically, I end up being confused by this post of yours above. Was the rule's application misinterpreted? Is this a revision? As someone whom has felt it was really unfortunate to not have my ranger be able to spend most of her time in the forest, I'm not sure what to expect from this measure any longer.

Going on further on that line, is it possible to consider the Viridale Forest zone itself a place that could have no spawn point for hostile NPCs at all? If such was done, the 'unchallenging area' label would no longer apply, correct? And besides, whom really bothers to linger in that zone fighting the hostile NPCs there anyhow? Folks usually just run through it to access Mossclaw Meet for their beat-up-the-monsters needs.

I'll follow-up with you privately Maia.

Again, this all goes back to balance. There's no problem with spending a little time there. Staying for a long time, killing the same spawns over and over, is not allowed.
