  • NWN2 Patch 1.23 released

according to the forums, Patch 1.23 has been released! there are many upgrades and improvements in this patch which has been tested live on a number of other servers. much of the new stuff seems aimed at the developers.

i was wondering what Sundren's time frame for implementing this patch is, so we'll all know when we should upgrade!

i really hope this patch will help the entire community, there's been some amazing custom content coming out recently (did anyone see the video of a character doing a back flip, very cool) as well as new creatures!

anyway, it's good news for the game, let's hope it's not the last patch!

    thanks for any info.

if anyone's interested here's the direct link to the new patch notes:

The timeframe is.... when we patch.

You'll know when we tell you, as with any patch.

          · Casting invisibility will now make the affected character silent, as well as invisible. There will no longer be an opaque appearance on invisible creatures, which should reduce confusion.

Invisible people should just have learned to sneak (MS skill only, not hide) if they wanted to be sneaky. But nooo. They need to give every damn random third level wizard HIPS without movement speed reduction. Pfft.

This is one of the dumbest decisions they have made yet. Oh well.

Gray Orcs will now be affected by the Charm Person spell.
Gray Orcs will now be affected by the Daze spell.
Gray Orcs will now be affected by the Dominate Person spell.
That's good for Mossdale at least.

I like the Hide___InExamine options, if they work this time around.

Also means Samurai would be accessible from level 1, right? Or any custom base class.

Samurai has a feat requirement at the moment. Might switch it to simple DM authorisation.

PL the rating thing when you clikc on someone does work. The other sever I play on uses the 1.23 patch and everyone has the same rating. Also the thing where it shows you the spells thaey have up goes away with the patch also.. I do like to see what I am up against but *shrug* Its a cool patch.

I wholeheartedly agree. This is a silly change. Everything else looks cool though, more mystery and intrigue!

As Firechicken mentioned they do work as advertised!

Personally I can't wait to see the examine stuff hidden - It'll be nice to see people having to react to the appearance and attitudes of other characters rather than their CR.

Should make macho posturing that touch more interesting.

I disagree that the invis change is stupid. The problem with invis and listen and crap is that it's too easy to metagame in CRPG world. I don't even think stealth people should show up on the map with a listen check unless it's a radar blip. With this new method you can better implement listen checks against invis people WITHOUT seeing them.

"You hear motion N/W of you." is alot better to me than a see-through version of a person standing next to you.

Every DM in NWN2 has seen someone metagame invis, it's not anything new.

There's no denying that the former showing of invisible people when heard lacks realism and opens up roads to possible metagaming.. However, with this change invisibility becomes easily exploitable. Even if you're implementing a means to detect the position of invisible people (which I do hope will be done on Sundren).

The main problem is that people become untargettable. Where in vanilla D&D, you can swing your sword at the place where you heard something, shoot a couple of arrows in that direction or leap there for a grapple or overrun, in NWN you cannot. This means that invisible people are always safe from anyone who can't cast some spell to detect them or use some area spell to hit whatever is there. This makes it ridiculously easy to get away with much more than a level 2 spell should allow.

Shame that they hardcoded it. I'm sure they made it this way since the last patch made invisible people still tracked down by NPC AI.

As a DM, misuse of stealth is one of my biggest bugbears. However, I'm less annoyed by metagaming to spot stealthed people than by stealthed people walking around invisible without any attempt at finding actual cover. But, I digress...
