From the table I remember, equipping a full plate takes 2 minutes and can't be done on your own.
Though that'd be a bit too much restriction
Fantasy realism wasn't the reason for implementation. It was:
- Making people think twice about resting in the wild
- Making strip - buff - equip routines detrimental in time intensive situations, and annoying in others
- Avoid people popping their plate on instantly if any apparent RP threat arises. If you're caught with your pants down, tough cookies. Sometimes you have to roll with what you have at your disposal at that moment.
- Thinking twice is good, but not for spell casters.
- Name a time intensive situation? The engine already prevents changing armor in combat. Only annoying to spell casters who only have to change robes occasionally or to anyone who has to wait for the fighter.
- Not a problem for spell casters because they only need 5 seconds and can fully buff in less time.
It is for clerics and other caster tanks (Eldritch knight etc) that were running around at a constant fully buff because they could just pop off the armor, buff, and move on with things. now they are less inclined to do so. makes the buffs more of a special situation kind of thing instead of perma extra stats.

If you dont like sleeping in your armour you could always be a monk, wizard, duelist, invisible blade, forest master, whirling dervish e.t.c. e.tc.
The only thing I hate about the timer is that it still effects druids when wildshaping which severely hampers Falmari when he switches out of Dire boar or whatever

If I had my way, clerics would have spell failure and a d6 hit die. And Favored Souls wouldn't exist.
If i remember correctly...in PnP it takes 4 turns to put on a Fullplate which is 12 seconds. <snip>
No, 4 ROUNDS is 12 seconds. There are 10 rounds to a turn. *slap*
Edit: And actually even 4 rounds is 24 seconds. Pfft, n00b

Thanks for the elaboration... the timer really only hoses turtle style fighters (and druids) and their companions who have to wait on them. All the high dex fighters can rest in their armor.
Very odd, I don't notice any equip timer when shapeshifting with my Druid. I just get a message that I'm not in combat or something, and that the equip times is disabled (don't recall the exact wording)
I don't shift during combat normally and I have no humanoid shapes, perhaps it's limited to being in combat and/or using shapes that wear armor.
