  • Alignment Restrictions on Weapons

I'm all for alignment restrictions on items: they encourage people to play different alignments if only to get cool stuff to use. But personally I feel some of the restrictions on items are a bit too tight. There's a set of "Noble Champion" items sold by the dwarf guy in the Exigo camp, and it's only useable by Neutral Goods. This baffles me. Why can only Neutral Goods be "Noble Champions" ? Why can't CGs be such too? Heck, why can't LN, N, CN be champions? More importantly, why can't LG be Noble Champions? A lot of the stuff on the set boosts Paladin-y skills (like Diplomacy and Concentration), so it seems strange that a Paladin can't actually use it. Peri ain't complaining, it's just weird for me to think that she'll be able to use a set of "Noble Champion" items that even the great Sir Hano cannot.

Secondly, there are the items in the Thayan enclave, which are NE only. I know Thayans are pretty selfish and all, but I've always thought, given their bereaucracy and organization, that Thayans lean more towards the LE side of the spectrum.

I'm not sure of the existence of any other alignment restriction items, so I'm only pointing out these two. It just doesn't really make sense to me. Perhaps making it "Good only" and "Evil only" is enough?

Also, Neutral people need some loving too! And not just druids!

I think you don't quite understand how item properties work in this regard. Useable by is an "or" statement as far as logic goes. So in the case of these items they have Useable by good, and useable by neutral, so that means good or neutral can use them. If it said useable by neutral good, then it would be just NG, but then you could also have useable by lawful good on it too which would make the item useable by LG and NG.

That said I hate alignment restrictions on such weak magic items. It makes sense on something very powerful, or at least very holy, but when most everything here is just +1 items, its really silly to me.

Even worse is how there are several examples of items on the server with certain gods represented on them, yet because of the alignment restrictions, there would be clerics of that same god who could not actually use the item. I think theres stuff that is good only in the temple of Helm, which doesn't make much sense because Helm is lawful neutral, so he would probably much rather have an LE cleric of his using it rather than some CG who doesn't even give him much worship.

          Oh, right.
I thought "Only Useable By: Good" and "Only Useable By: Neutral" meant those two specific combinations.

          My bad.

I honestly don't think it's that bad? And besides you guys will start seeing cool highlevel gear, or at least having access to a bit more of it in stores. You see all these factions we've been working on, starting to make quests for... planning the ranks out for...

What do you think one of the main benefits of getting a higher rank in that organization? Suddenly the faction store starts offering some nice "goodies" only you can see as a higher ranking officer in a given faction. And of course the gear available will usually be in tune with the faction's personal dogmas, but it will encompass both caster and melee.

Your faction rep (which determines your ranking) can improve both by quests from the faction and by DM events. Consequently there will eventually be negative ways to affect your reputations with them as well.
The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.
