I don't see why this sort of weapon knowledge wouldn't be governed just as well by the Craft Weapon skill. You'd think a master craftsman of an item would need to know all about the item he's so skilled in producing -- ie. current and historical methods of production, current and historical technologies, paragon examples of his chosen item, etc.

Granted, Craft Weapon (or any craft skill these days) is pretty useless, but it's for RP and (practically speaking) knowledge skills don't really have a practical use anyway. Not to mention that the crafting system is on it's way in. If a character were really interested in creating items -- whether with DM help or waiting out the crafting system, he'd better have the associated Craft skill, as far as I'm concerned. I mean hey, I can read every book there is about cheese and become a world reknowned expert, but it doesn't mean I can automatically turn out a spectacular rochefort.

Hurricanemasta makes some good points. Things like crafting skills, spellcraft, perform, parry, perform, survival, etc, etc are all knowledge skills in the right circumstances (depending on the PC, and what they think points in given skills might reasonably cover). As an example, I recently had a PC use their perform skill in an event very creatively in order to gain knowledge.

I've taken lots of ranks in 'useless' skills with PCs before to enhance RP potential, primarily because they do act as knowledge skills.

SO I'm playing in the toolset for about 30 minutes.. and thought you all might like to see whats now possible. Now don't get excited cause its not on Sundren (well at least not yet), but the potential is there. And I didn;t make Custom icons for them, cause I'm feeling lazy tonight.

I really suck at this picture posting thing.

With that many skills, we need to get more skill points then. In 4E they are decreasing the number of skills actually.

I kept crashing after doing this and finally figured it out. Its was my custom UI. I was using Charlie's UI and it hates skills. Good thing to remember in the future if you keep crashing for unknown reasons... try removing your custom UI's.

I have to say 3rd edition has way too many stupid skills. And far too few skill points to go around based on some skill requirements, and especially when factoring in the d20 roll.

Casters have it the worst since they must maximize two skills. But most caster classes also get only 2 skill points per level.

Please start a thread in OOC for this kind of discussion. The suggestion thread is too easily siderailed (aka hijacked) when negative personal opinions are voiced here.
