How hard would it be too impliment a Knowledge skill that could have a scroll button to choose say *Knowledge Dagger, sword , Arcane books so on and so fourth, basically just make a few extra indepth skills, i seem to notice that on my character and a few others we use Lore as the basis for many of such things.

I think this would add alot of indepth Roleplay when it comes to players knowing more about one thing than another.

I created a knowledge system for another server, as a few of the players here can attest to. It was quick and easy to use. But after the first week or so, no one really paid attention to it. Know why? Cause the players didn't like having there knowledge broken down. I saw too many rangers with Lore of 20+ and a sub moron intelligence arguing planar mechanics, dungeon construction, religious theos, nature and physics with DMs NPCs in events. Nobody cared enough to use the knowledge system. All it served to do was make the players gnash their teeth and accuse others of trying to dictate to them how they RP.

It really was an unpleasent experiance.

Yeah, we already have a lot of discussions about the conversational skills, like bluff and diplomacy. This would only add to that.

what if Lore was used as a basic Lore check of over all knowledge, kinda like a know it all, were the extra bonus would be used in such instances as maby Creating specific weapons or armor? Maby the person would need a 15 skill in specifically Chainmail armor, perhaps long swords. I think something like this would make people want to specialize there knowledge?

The reason i feel this way is while playing my fighter, i have created him as a Weapon specialist, he studies ancient artifact weapons , Mainly Axes . And it seem something like this would make characters much more in depth, be able to create special items later on in game perhaps by Dm's but only if you knew enough about magical properties and history of that type of weapon / Armor

For now, maybe just exercise some discression by the PCs. Roll lore checks only for things your character MIGHT know. Apply modifiers for things they may have heard but are not experts in. I know this is not a perfect solution, and you can't force others to abide by this. But heck, the sooner you know folks who don't play fair, the sooner you can avoid them!

                  1.13 Patch Sneak Peek
While we are still nailing down the 1.13 patch - the MoW Security work makes this difficult - I thought I would just give you a sneak peek at some of the fixes already planned for the 1.13 patch:

                  • The toolset and game will load haks in the same order
                  • Ability to tint multiple tiles while multi-selected
                  • Allow GetNextItemInInventory to work with stores
                  • The dm_setfaction command will no longer cause servers to crash
                  • Light and sound sphere sizes will be correct in the toolset
                  • Add get and set functions to access the ItemPropertyActivationPreference flag on items
                  • The Chat channel selected will remain persistent through area and module transitions
                  • Skills.2da will now allow up to 100 rows of data
Dammit! They called my bluff! Grr.. better start mapping out the skillz, lol.

Peeps should use their common sense on this one. Decide what your charcter is likely to know about, and apply your lore skill where appropriate. That's really all there is to it!

Lol, personally I could care less about specific knowledge skills (figured I would just use lore like mach mentioned), but I remember when this thread was posted, and seeing that sneak peak cracked me up, because it ACTUALLY happened. If I were to add any skills from PnP it would probably be the jump, swim, and climb/climb walls. Although that is probably impossible to implement in this game because...well...there isn't any jumping to begin with (which kind of throws off one of my character ideas *sigh*).

Don't ask me Sharington, all that developer stuff is beyond me! I was just putting that out there with respect to how people use the skills that are currently in there (ie: 'lore'). The concept of sub-categories sounds cool to me as a matter of fact!
