Many of my characters take their helm off at times, but keep their armour on. Also if you made the armour/helmet one peice you would have to add the abilities of the helmet to the armour. Which in turn would inflate the price of the armour and make it much harder to purchase viable equipment. Being able to pick and choose your equipment is one of the things I enjoy about DnD.

      True say, dawg.

But uh, yeah... the icing and unbaked cake metaphor is a pretty good one. Though this is still something to be looked at, in time, though if you are actually willing to volunteer yourself, I'm sure the DM's won't refuse your aid unless you blatantly suck at item creation.

      Give it a try.

To tell you the truth the only thing that bothers me about helmets right now is the fact that so many of them DON'T give any bonuses. I can see a wizards hat or a hood not giving you ac but when I see a hood giving like +1 ac and some fighters helm not giving him anything? I think helms (real helms like metal helms) should be giving at least +1 armor, because if you were in a fight with some evil cleric or something and you are decked out in plate but not wearing a helmet he's just going to smash your helm in your 35 ac be damned. So yeah... helmets should be giving ac bonuses in my opinion, unless you want to claim that it's made of tin foil or something... Although this is not a pertinent enough problem in my opinion for the DM's to worry about right now, so forget about my comments for now, but remember them later....

Looking at Jaeram's view, I think helms should protect against crits, like in BG2.

Ooohhh I just remembered that as I read Jaeram's post, and then you said it!

Yeah, BG2 was pretty badass. While we're at it, let's add the Kensai class as well =P
            Characters:
Peridan Twilight, one-eyed dog of the Legion, deceased.
Daniel Nobody, adventurer and part time problem solver.

            [DM] Poltergeist :
If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge an intermediate deity's unbridled fury.

Yes! that too, I forgot all about crit protection from BGII, even if you don't want to give them ac bonuses, crit protection would be very viable as well, if not actually more viable. Now that you mention it I have to say crit protection would probably be better than giving them all an ac bonus. Good job rustediron.

Edit : Yes! you as well Peridan lol, I loved the kensai class but most people just say something like make a weapon master. Weapon masters aren't kensai, it's not the same, maybe the dev's would consider it for an in house PRC. Although I'm not going to push any more work on to them.

Be nice wouldn't it? Problem is, in NWN, Immune to crits makes you auto immune to sneak as well. Real dumb but thats how it goes.

Wierd thing is, you can be immune to sneak attacks and not to crits though.
