    Hi all

I'm a casual player here and have managed to get my char to level nine. one thing I really liked about the death system here was that if I got my guy in over his head and i died I could take a resonable hit to xp and gold and come back again to play.

Not any more it seems. With the current system I'm stuck in limbo till some one gets me back to a temple or a cleric raises me. Under the current conditions will not be soon.

I play clerics for there ability to channel Godly power to bring back the dead ( that and I feel the class over all really kicks butt).

I really think that instead of the current system of this endless waiting. Give the player OnDeath a 5% chance or receving a death token, upon the tenth death token the char would go perma-death.
This would reward so to speak those that play their chars carefully and hurt the ones that played with out concern for death.

anyway I'll check back in a few weeks to see if i will ever be able to get to play me dwarf clerc here in again.

    Yours

You should have 3 Signus (looks like an orange 20 sided dice) That means you get 3 free 'deaths' also, new loot system is going to put these signus items in the drops tables.

Yes, and I have to say, to make that death token system close to what the current system is you would probably need to change that % to get a death token upon death from 5% to about... say... 50-70% maybe more, since your giving your self perma-death at 10 tokens. I'm fairly afraid of death right now as it is and my character isn't even level 9 yet lol, but with a 5% system... I would probably care less. But there have been so many complaints and suggestions about the death system, I doubt the DM team wants to change the system at all at this point, and depending on the responses to the thread I wouldn't be too surprised if it was closed soon since it's kind of beating a dead horse just my opinion.

Actually. The only thing I disagree with is the large hit you take when you get ressed at the temple. It should be reduced *some*. Right now, it almost always results in a de-level at higher levels.

However, I will say these *positive* things about the death system:

1- If you are raised by Raise Dead or Ressurection, the cost in diamonds is cheaper, and the EXP hit is MUCH cheaper. So, some of you should roll priests

2- It promotes DM/Player interaction. If you die in an event, a DM is more likely to raise you (id say by a factor of 10x, depending on how dumb you were), then if you were just soloing/partying in a premade dungeon. There is also the possibility of a Signus for good RP/good decision making.

3- It makes people take PVP more seriously, and people are playing evil characters more realistically now. An evil character, a smart one at least, the ones that get to become powerful, are usually never *directly* aggressive- unless your a chieftain of a raiding clan

4- It offers some interesting RP solutions for people "Executed" by Sundren. I always wondered how the "Death" in Sundren's law (which basically means True death), coincided with the pre-existing death system. Now it does.

5- Priests are suddenly more valuable, especially ones that *heal* and not just *buff*.

6- Insta-death and Anti-insta-death spells are suddenly very valuable. A few prestige classes have abilities that allow them to "question death". Those are now much more powerful.

7- Subdual now has a real point. I use it during almost all of my PVP sessions.

8- It encourages players to make friends, and go out in groups, which means less grinding. I know some of you may want to grind- and sometimes I do too- but I runa few lower level characters, and I run into *real* grinders a lot of the time, and I kinda say "Wow, they are missing a lot by rushing so much".

9- People RP better because the consequences are more close to real life. You die= a lot of your time.

10- People will use the bank.

PS: Can we get a bond/stock system up and running? That might be my next suggestion.

And always, if your character is higher than 8, with no SIgnus, and alone, you never know- someday, they may be raised.

Also realize that the DM's are people too. IF you die because you had to leave for an emergancy, (your dog just defecated all over your new carpet), or you have a lag spike, if you ask very nicely, they may bring you back. They did for me, once. Just be rational, even keeled, calm, etc.

Remember, the best way to solve a dispute is to not get angry or irritated. Even if your character isn't raised, you can create a new one. That is kinda what DnD is all about. I can garuntee you your second character will be better built than your first.

But my character, is of course, THE ULTIMATE.

(just kidding, he is far from it. some of you guys scare me. Gruulkuk... )

          Plenty of these already...
The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.
