  • New Ability: Hide Alignment

This is not to bring back the Detect Evil thread. DMs spoke it, made a ruling, and closed thread. Follow it.

What I want to do is suggest the implimentation of the spell Hide Alignment. This spell in PnP is specifically designed to block the Detect Evil ability.

I think the main objection people have is they have no counter to the Detect Evil (and Detect Good) spell/ability. This should help in this problem.

Until it is actually implimented, maybe a DM could rule on what would be a good substitute? If you need the details on it, let me know. I'm sure I can find them easily.

Protection vs Alignment is already in the game and accomplishes this... so not much point in us making another spell for it.
The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.

*claps and hopes for the sake of the server*

I really am rethinking bothering to spend weeks, and planing months at least on a deep evil char only to have eveything ended by a random spell casting. Really isn't fair to players, and I think that players of Good chars should be mature enough to know that evil PCs add alot to a world.

You guys complain over non-issues a great deal. I have yet to see a single post where someone said "OMG I got molly whopped by detect evil now playing my char is useless!"

Grow some balls. Detect Evil has been in for months.

lol, luckily, no-one's cast detect evil on me yet, because I would have no idea what to tell the paladin that cast it on me as I am completely clueless as to my alignment xD

Hmmm, I can think of a ton of things.

"Your god and you are racist."

"Why should anyone believe you actually saw what you did? You could be lying!"

"Of course I'm evil! My daddy locked me in rooms when I was a kid and shoved glass under my finger nails!"

"Please don't hurt me! I just wanted a drink of water!"

"I'm sorry... Me being evil means what to me?"

Getting out of detect evil is so easy Remember, Paladins are L/G. Which means they generally feel pity for people. Heheh.

I have be effected by DMs telling PCs near my to react to my evil character of face punishment. I mentioned that in the other thread. So even the DMs are pushing this sort of poor play.

Most Paladins on the server I've met have been Jack Booted and care very little for compassion or reason. "Opps someone some where said you broke the law. Your time is over Feind!" or "I smell evil on you. Prepare to Die, I hate you suddenly for no other reason Mother"

              That is my experience.

I never see that, or some paladins might find themselves without paladin powers ^_^ As for the DM, maybe it was one of the ones we removed. We don't always agree with everything every DM does. They try to sneak it there when we're not looking.

Like a 20 foot golem sending hellballs into the temple of helm. Come on, do you think we're okay with that? By we I mean the secret society of Costly Masons, no we're not free.

Also, keep in mind that the -players- of paladin-y characters have a lot to balance and a lot of people to try to please. They want to not be jerks OOCly by locking up every evil character or everyone who might be a threat, but at the same time they have an obligation to work towards it.

All part of the reason that if you want to play a persecuted character, you should make a paladin instead of a drow tiefling warlock. ^_^

Also, it is my understanding that blocking alignment does not give a false read ... it gives no read. Knowing someone under suspicion has blocked their alignment from detection would likely have the same result as if they didn't.

Then, I don't know how the detect spell actually works so maybe none of that comes into play.

I could also be entirely wrong.

                    Why did I even post.

Okay, detect evil works like this. Either there's evil or there is no evil. When you block it, it says no evil as if you were neutral or good.

Nevermind my post then, it's not as complicated as I was making it out to be.

Casting protection from good raises just as big a flag of course. Lilly got called on that a few times, but I don't think a paladin ever checked her anyways.

I'm not sure what people do though, without being able to cast it.

There are varying degrees of evil too.

"Faint evil aura" is someone who probably cheats on their taxes
"Moderate evil aura" is someone who probably stole some candy from children and then pushed one down the stairs.
"Strong evil aura" probably tried to sacrifice them to the gods afterwards.
"Overwhelming evil aura" probably is the god they tried to sacrifice them to

Yeah, you forgot to mention the requisite stunning and blindness suffered after seeing the "Overwhelming Evil Aura" ...it's the best part! I'm disappointed GBX, really disappointed.
