  • On Crafting

Crafting is one of the most saught after things on a PW. But it can be the most easily abused. And is a bitch to balance. I hear that the Sundren is soon to get crafting in. Besides limiting avaiblility of matierals. I have two suggestions that would basically stop abuse. Or cut it way back down from blatent levels. I am thinking for the Craft Wonderous Items, Craft Magical Arms and Armor, Craft Weapon and Craft Armor Feats. Not scribe scroll, brew potion, craft trap feats.

    1. This is my prefered method if possible. Simply put a 24 hour cool down on the crafting feats. This would be good for game balance and prevent people from spaming there ability. Creating a magic sword or crafting mithral armor should be a big deal! Making a 24 hour cool down should make players with those skills not take crafting lightly. This would also prevent possible Spam --> sell to NPC merchan for gold issues.

    2. Least prefered method. Mark all crafted items as Stolen such that players can only sell them to players or NPCs that handle stolen goods. I believe that PW The Frontier had to mark all master work items as stolen.

Those are just my two ideas, trying to help.

    1) Craft Armor isn't a Feat; It's a skill and would likely of course be subject to the 24 hour duration.

    2) Craft Magical Arms and Armor is more enchanting than anything else, and the fact of the matter is, it's entirely possible to enchant, over and over and over again, provided you have the materials, it doesn't take at all as much time as say- Forging mithril armor.

    3) Craft Wondrous Item requires multiple components that likely won't be easily attained just through grinding, thus limiting it anyhow.

    4) Gold costs in Sundren are capped at every merchant to prevent item sale abuse.

    5) Point 2 again, Faerun is a highly magical world, even if the area we're in doesn't have much magic, some people can just enchant a pair of earrings and forget they ever did anything, that's how crazily high magic the overall setting is. Additionally we have the Thayans, who can basically churn this stuff out as that's what they do.
"Men fear thought as they fear nothing else on earth -- more than ruin -- more even than death.... Thought is subversive and revolutionary, destructive and terrible, thought is merciless to privilege, established institutions, and comfortable habit. Thought looks into the pit of hell and is not afraid. Thought is great and swift and free, the light of the world, and the chief glory of man."

So, crafting of weapon and armor is not allowed at this time? I was looking for someone to enchant my elven glade blade (elven scimitar) to +1. I like the way it looks as compared to the OC scimitars.

Ask around, post on the exigo forum place etc.
I know 2 people who can enchant, but I'm sure there are more.

Thanks, but I think I better save up some Stags before posting. I do not know how much they will charge.

i think the normal NWN crafting system is not the ideal way for a RP server. There are many more creatives ways to implament crafting that would completely involve some type of story/lore/objective when persueing something of saught after value.

One way is to have a "craft with recipe".
Basically you find a recipe somewhere along your travels to an old long dead dwarven smith. You could say it is a journal to his work, with some basic layouts of metal alloys, possibly a certain technique in tempering the metal, gives a specific example of some successfull items he has made and what he innate dwarven heritage has bestown onto the crafted item.

Unfortunaly the scroll was so worn that you managed to destroy it while making "Big Axe" and you no longer can create an item quite a prestine as your new "Big Axe".

Odviously the basics are there you need xx amount of metal A chunks, some sturdy wood, maybe some fancy farie dust from your local fae shop etc. etc.

there are many others ways to do crafting outwside of the "harvest wood, get some metal, find workbench, gain skill, create Big Bow"

and most of them are nearly impossible to exploit as long as you follow the basic RP rule of thumb. And if you don't follow that rule, i'm sure you'd be having a short stay anyways.

Sundren's crafting system isn't done yet, I think it's the next one on the list after the quests and factions.

Factions is pretty much done, except I want to do a UI so you can visually see your faction standing instead of the reputations deal we have now.

Quests is pretty much next after a few more mundane scripts, like death system and such.

No essences. Sundren, as stated above, will have it's own crafting system, which is not yet implemented.
