Now you see, here is where the awesome templates come in.
Want to be a werecrow? BAM get pecked by one while roasting sausages at the crossroads and get the template.
Want to be an undead warrior? BAM go to the necropolis and wander around the ruined temple.
Want to be turned into a vegetative state? BAM stand around Megan for a while when she has her spear out and the sky decides to head to poops-ville again.

Personally I am waiting for the Half Yuan Ti Template >_> <_< ^_^
~Lyonette L'cyr (Rook)-- Deader than Malaclypse

~Megandlla Uyth 'Llar -- In a land Far Far away!

~Emilee Mistwalker -- A Female Sigrun? Pfft, far cooler--.... eh.... Hated!!

I think just waiting for the template/prcs will be sweet enough, when everyone becomes special races, no one is special anymore...so, everyone being human is basically the same thing as everyone being part golem.

I think one should expect that several templates will not be desirable at all for a character, Saulus did not use his "Blighted" exemple for nothing. I believe it will certainly be used far more often as an innovative way to put permanent afflictions on some player characters who toss their lives around too easily.

[Sorcerer McPewpew:] "A Royal Mummy! I ATTACK!!!"
[DM:] "This last slam attack you took gave you a vicious curse. You have 3 days to find a cure before you become a moaning lump of flesh. Meanwhile your Charisma will drop faster than Little Mac fighting Mike Tyson in Punch Out, as your skin rapidly becomes a disgusting crust that falls off."

you're in luck...if 1 year = 1 day on sundren...3 days = just enough time for you to find that cure.

Since Sundren follows the usual 2 minutes = 1 in-game hour scheme:

3 days = 72 hours = 144 real-life minutes or roughly over 2 real hours to find a cure, in this exemple ^_^
I think it gives a chance and presses the player to take his character's afflictions seriously at the same time. A very nice system.

Actually it's 6 minutes per game hour. We changed the default.
The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.

Random question re cursed templates - does the timer run when the player isn't online? If, for instance, someone were bitten by something near the end of a playing session, it would seem a bit much to require a player to remain online and search for a cure.

That assumes that the scripts allowing application of templates can run with some degree of autonomy. If they rely on DMs to apply, I assume DMs will use their better judgement and not curse someone playing in say, New York at 1am EST, or near the end of a 4-hour marathon session, if the timer doesn't stop when the player goes offline.
