    Word of Recall stones? Hmmmm.

With the enclave guidelines and DM item creation rules, a budget of 2000 gp...how you gonna make a teleport stone available to players?

It's a low magic world, besides when I got stuck in the necropolis ledge there was some good RP standing there waiting for people to show up...and I didn't even know how to use the /t player yet.

    Town portals? boo.

Secrect portals? well...without exploration why do you know they don't already exist.

    and congrats, blue_wyrm

Wow, you guys really kill me sometimes.

Not the spirit of FR, who made you the FR king or queen! How many times have the DMs said that while Sundren is based in FR, it can look however the hell they want it to?

It was a suggestion that on second thought I rescinded because I realized that most people would probably just abuse it instead of use it as I envisioned, which was if you got stuck somewhere by yourself at no fault of your own. And then I realized again that as a failsafe, it would just make some people go boldly into an area they know they shouldn't and just warp out. So, I saw the error of my suggestion and can we please just lock it before more people jump on the "hey, this is a shitty suggestion, nothing like this in FR or AD&D" bandwagon?

I have had it happen to me many times, zoning into an area without the party that I was with. It has even happened when I was with a party but I was the first one to zone and I got killed before I even had a chance to move or take a potion.

And, talk about metagaming, if you are in the start up area and go invis or hide in shadows because you know something is going to happen, isn't that metagaming?

          This sounds like Ragnarok Online.

          Wait-- No. Lineage 2.

          Wait~!

          Diablo!

Adding in teleportation while in dungeons or something sounds like it caters to the grinding mentality which we have too much of as it is.
"Men fear thought as they fear nothing else on earth -- more than ruin -- more even than death.... Thought is subversive and revolutionary, destructive and terrible, thought is merciless to privilege, established institutions, and comfortable habit. Thought looks into the pit of hell and is not afraid. Thought is great and swift and free, the light of the world, and the chief glory of man."

Yes, it's simply that whenever someone makes a suggestion, one must always consider the worst possible use that a potential Chaotic Evil Player would make of it. Because it's ~going~ to happen...

            And about my new tag...

            Thanks you!

While this means Roger will be slightly less visible in-game, you can bet I will be giggling like a japanese schoolgirl playing in the Toolset and thinking up new balanced items, to add variety and depth into Sundren. Please keep in mind that I am working on very specific assignments to help the Dev Team release new exciting stuff for you all faster, so I will probably not be adding sexy garters for a while. *cough* More seriously, I'd like to add a wide variety of fashion items and less-used weapon types, but first things first. While we are quite aware of several types of items missing, we still have priorities to observe (they're SO worth it, believe me). Sundren's kicking arse and it will only get better!

Since the creator of this thread asked himself for a lock and probably no good will come out of further blabbering, I too think locking it would be a good idea.

              ThePaganKing,

First realize that once a topic is brought up, it tends to acquire a mind of it's own. You let the warp stone cat out of the bag and it took off down the road, now everyone is swinging at it on it's way by.

(oh, Kaldaris, that reminded me of "ugly" the cat...)

Therefore, unless specifically stated, like: "That dude ThePaganKing, I frickin hate him and his stupid warp ideas!1! *strangle*"...I wouldn't take it too personally.

Well, if you're standing in a blank waiting room with no exit, next to a bunch of randomly disappearing players, I think the metagaming factor can be set aside temporarily.

Man, That dude ThePaganKing and his warpstone idea...would work in an area that is somewhat similar to a multi level zone. Kinda like the necropolis but much larger, less accessable for a CR and a lot more difficult.

It's almost as if you needed the warp stone to get to that place, and back as sort of a DM reward or one time quest reward.

One PW in NWN1 there was an epic zone, the reward at the end was the epic store. You couldn't buy or make anything nearly as grand as the things you bought there...and man was it hard to get to.

Demi gorgon is not your friend.

heh, you want metagaming? how about putting your best RP face on when you know there's a DM character around.

About the whole 'not in the spirit of FR' thing... that's laughable.

Portals are what Faerun is all about. Half of the races in FR got here because of portals. (dwarves, elves, orcs). Portals exist between numerous locations. Most mages can teleport and create portals. While Sundren might be low magic, the rest of FR is extremely high magic. And several player characters in Sundren part of a specific faction already have teleportation items.

It's not about 'not fitting in with FR lore', it's about keeping it balanced and light so people aren't teleporting all over the place all the time.

if you played PnP, once your party mage get's teleport the whole game is turned upside down.

besides, only people afflicted with gypsy curses are allowed to teleport all the time.

now..where did I hide that fey crossing...?

                      Yes, but..
...what Vekin has said is not laughable, its right... everyone carrying whats essentially mobile portal activators around is not in the right spirit. Mages can teleport, they cannot create portals easily, portal creation is a very very costly and skilled thing.

As Aux already said, how many people are carrying round portals in their pocket? Yes a high level mage might be able to have one but not every adventure who happens to swing a sword.

When I said laughable, I was referring strictly to the idea that teleportation 'isn't in the spirit of FR'.

Yes, overdoing portals is bad, that I entirely agree with. However, one can't deny that teleportation is quite common place in the high magic areas of FR. Obviously, most characters aren't high magic, of course.

Of course people have portals in their pocket...where do you think all the pocket lint comes from? The plane of Linto. Sheesh, you people are stupid.

I understand completely the warp stone concept would not work in NWN2 and especially Sundren. It would be completely abused. And, it does take great magic to create portals; however, I have read of, in Faerun, rings and other magical items that could create portals or warp you to a preset location.

My primary reason for broaching this subject was the frequent crashes and how many are stranded after such crashes.

And, I apologize if I offended anyone with my rant....had a bad day at the office.

                                Cheers!
