  • Vault Wipe

First off, dont start flaming me for this suggestion.

I think we should wipe out all the chars in the vault. Why? Because everyone right now is mainly old players of Sundren, with their high levels, and the rare new players that come by make a char. Now, theres nobody else to group with mainly. Everyones off playing a high level while the new player can only try to solo. And ive tried making a new char and soloing. Its practically impossible, and you get killed in moments. The players usually feel discouraged and quit, seeing as theres no wayto level up. a Vault wipe would require us to all start new chars, i think restoring old chars was a bad idea. Now i still see the same old sundren with 10 players at maximum, where at the start of Sundren we had 20-30, which was awesome. Either wiping out our vaults and forcing us to make new chars would bring people, or the old players can simply pitch in by making alts that are low level and being on them for a fair amount of time.

I'm playing a new character though! In fact I'm going to log on right now and try and find some other low level peoples to RP with .

Seriously though... Steak may well have a good idea here. Speaking personally, my old characters seem kind of pointless to me... like they don't have any real IC purpose anymore.

*flames them both with lots of flames* :P

I have started a new character as well...but I definitely would like to keep my old ones as i generally try to intertwine all of my characters' stories.

Mmm, as i said, new characters would work as well. I made a Drow, but i doubt thats much help. No other Drow to rp with nyways. I'll make a normal char today.. hmm.

Making new characters works! I am going to personally just sit on the docks being level 3

First of all, the issue with high-level characters around and having to create a low-level? That's not unique to Sundren, but can be found on -any- PW that's been running long. In fact, the environment here is a lot friendlier to lower levels than on most other servers that I've played on. I've had more interaction with new characters than I have with returning veterans.

Comparing the sever to when it launched isn't really a fair comparison. Beforehand, there were months and months of buildup, and many people basically chomping at the bit for the server to open. Now, Sundren wasn't really as advertised or hyped as it was then -- in fact, it wasn't really supposed to open for quite a while.

If the primary pick is actually "there aren't enough people on", I don't think a vault wipe will help. What will help is when people who log on to check numbers and then log off actually stay. I have, and have gotten a lot of good RP that way -- and in the process, have made the server as active as it can be. If everyone determines that they won't stay unless there are people on, it's a rather self-destructive cycle.

Raksha also has a point here! But I don't feel sufficiently flamed...

I have a new char but want to keep the old one for RP pourposes only. I too have intertwined the new characters story with my old one.
Personally I don't see the point of keeping the old char I don't like to feel that my char is powerfull from the start.

Besides what is the point of having a party if there is one uber char that can kill everything while my lvl 3 char just sits around throwing ray of frost to get the occasional kill?

High lvl char = no challenge = boring

                My 2 cents.

Yeah, but if you continue playing your old chars, which are already way high level, whatabout the one or two new people that come in? THey barely have anyone to group up with, and most of the times no one. I remember when Sharan hills used to be crowded with new people leveling up. Nowo ne person just comes and goes. RP Isnt the only thing thats going to matter. Even if that new person has really good rp, whath appens when he goes out and he simply keeps getting killed with no one to group up with?

1.) Most of the time when I have been on the server, the number of "new" characters (that is, characters of level 5 or under, whenever they were created) has consistently been higher than the number of "old" characters (characters of higher levle, whenever they were created) at any time that there has been more of a handful of people on the server. The proportion of new characters to old is higher than it used to be; there simply is a lack of current numbers.

                        2) Characters of higher level can be a lot of help. I've had Raina devote a lot of time (even when the OOC tool was telling me that everyone was somewhere else) standing watch at the Hills, ready to buff the newer characters so that they could survive on their own.

                        3) I've never really had a hard time on the new areas, though any new character can die with a set of poor rolls. As the death penalty goes right now, there isn't really much of a hit for respawning at low levels.

Also, to counter: If everyone is slammed back to low levels, then all of the characters are going to be grinding in the Hills, then the forest. As it is, there is a large base of characters that don't get many gains from grinding, and therefore the server's other locations are seeing some use.

I'd really rather not that there be a huge mob grinding the hills, actually.

*Shrug.* I dont know then. I'd like some way to see Sundren back like it was, with 20-30 players. Right now its 3-10 most of the times.

Well, as a new player, I do not believe that a vault wipe is... well necessary!

I have two new (you find out who) and I enjoy playing with both! Currently I see the high-level characters as enigmas, just filled with RP goodness (and kudos to Raksha for guiding the first of my two characters around a bug infested cave) and mentor possibilities. Also, I find more and more people every day, most of which are new, low-ish level characters!
As the game stands right now I have never had this much fun with NWN2... ever and I hope that we can get more people interested in the server so that the fun can rarely end!

Just thought I should throw in my two cents.
