  • Hide the Spine's Fort Save Roll

Would be nice to hide the Fort roll done on heartbeat so it doesn't scroll the combat log. 10 is low enough where knowing the DC to beat just isn't important.

Maybe instead leave danger or warning signs before the zones that say "Its really cold! dc 10 fort" or something like that.

    Nice idea Lamb!

I rather like the heartbeat saves. Though, I've always thought it should increase as you climb higher. Maybe by one each climb, 10,11,12,13? That will be a hard one to hide because it forces a roll, either way.

Con check instead of Fort save! Cold stays relevant at all levels!

        (And yes, hide the check)

I'm not saying to eliminate the heartbeat saves - only the reporting of them in the combat log

I am ok with the CON check.

Part me also wants to lobby for feats like Steadfast Determination to stay relevant too. Mechanically we will decrease the usefulness of fort saves and fort related feats by doing this (at least when wandering about The Climb).

Doesn't that feat give you on average +6 bonus to Will saves too? (Taking into account all those belts of Con +4 that've been floating around lately)

All it does is take your con modifier and adds that as what your will save is based on. So say if you have a 10 con, and have the belt, then it puts you at 14. Which would mean you get a +2 modifier.

It also makes it so you cannot fail a fort save on a roll of a 1.

Ah ok...I was thinking Dwarf 16-23 Con plus the belt (20-27 Con). Also I thought it replaced your Wisdom modifier (in which case anyone picking that feat would probably pick Wis 8 unless they're a Pally/Cleric in which case why the hell would they pick the feat). For a total mod of +6 to +9. I was being conservative.

Someone with Con 10 picking a Con-based feat is like making a Paladin with Cha 10. i.e. You can't dispute it being overpowered by quoting ~1% of the demographic.

My paladin took it, because when you have a nice big fort save, it's nice to not fail on a 1. Also, not a ton of amazing feats for paladins so you have some wiggle room. Not all feats are created equal though, I mean who takes improved initiative? (About the last 4-5 minutes for the reference).

I'm all for making the cold climb cold more lethal. Not just higher DC's but more damage, especially higher up. I know many casters can ignore it with a spell, but I seldom bother because the failure only happens on a 1 and the damage is so small.

As to the original request to hide it from the combat log, I am not sure if that is doable. Can the game give you stealth saves? Could we make the saves a lot harder and more deadly but less frequent to try and preserve the spirit of the request?
I can't slow down, I can't hold back though you know I wish I could. No there ain't no rest for the wicked until we close our eyes for good!
