  • Minor Suggestion: Animal Companions

I'm sure it has been mentioned before but it's slightly immersion breaking when you can summon and unsummon your animal companion every 15 seconds, fully healing them in the process. If they die this is not the case, and they become unsummonable til you've rested.

Whilst this is handy if you like your companion being essentially immortal it's also quite silly. Perhaps allow the summon ability to restore on partial rest regardless of whether they died or were manually unsummoned would be more suitable.

Of course, bandages would likely have to be tweaked to be useable on them, or they'd have very short lifespans indeed.

Anyway, thanks for consideration! (Either that or 'filing' this suggestion in the circular file >< )

its a tuff cookie, somewhere between immersion and fun and useful class abilities. I'd also say its immersion breaking to have a somewhat useless'er summon

Well, they wouldn't be immortal, because they can die in encounters.

And since bandages can't be used on them, I don't think being able for animal summons to get healed in between encounters is especially game-breaking.

Also, buffing your companions can be extremely helpful in the mid levels, but unsummoning/resummoning gets rid of those buffs.

Buffing is limited as a ranger

My only gripe with the animal companions is that they never saw any love through the server's history, whereas many other pet-classes have been created, I'm still somewhat disappointed that Ranger and Druid, the trademark pet classes of DnD are pretty far behind pet-wise compared to say the Horned Harbinger or (Theoretically) paladins.

But~ Druids and Rangers themselves are really tough customers as far as classes go, so long as you're willing to accept that you're companion is largely flavor at end game (Unless you get the Dino!).

In light of all the above, I feel that being able to summon/unsummon them is sorta crucial to their continued use in end game. There is no encounter in mossdale that won't nuke any of the Rangers companions down in seconds. Even if you have natures bond. At best it ends up being a light distraction for the first part of the encounter to give archers some leeway.

I am with Kasso on this. Although I don't have an active Druid I think that the companions need some love. I am sure this is not high on the list of what the staff is doing, but perhaps adding it to the list would be great.

              Just my worthless thought.

During encounters! You can un-summon and re-summon it during combat. Every 15 seconds for full heal. Anyway, I wasn't complaining that it's too powerful :P Like Kasso says they're mostly just flavour.

Essentially what I'm suggesting is that if they 'die' you don't lose the ability to re-summon them, negating the silliness of waiting til the last minute before they die to dismiss them. A practice I'm certain all Rangers and Druids are familiar with.

Honestly, given the strength of both classes I can't help but feel that if their summonable allies were given a raise then the classes themselves would need to be weakened to compensate.

yeah I don't think the individual animals need improvement. BUT I would love to see some other feats for "beastmaster-types" or a PRC! oh man that would be awesome and in line with doubts thoughts.

I had a great thing going with a cleric that had animal domain and summons. was the closest to a beastmaster that I ever got until the summons got all jacked. I miss my pig army. ;(

I had mentioned this quite a while ago in this thread here... http://www.sundren.org/forum/showthr...ht=beastmaster and with the
Cwn Annwn I thought it was fitting.

obviously I had not added any ideas that would help. but your post reminded me of.

I still think it would cool .

Sitting in one of my notebooks is the outline for an urban summoning class, featuring lots of things like clockwork creatures, urban constructs and urban para-elementals (shattered glass hounds, rubbish elementals, things like the old glass golem)

If only I had loads of motivation, a bottomless well of time and the actual ability to make classes.

I recall a DM using a modron model once during an event. Maybe it's possible to work from that? At the very least, Kit will love you hard for clockwork shenanigans.

Note that I don't have Spell Focus: NWN2 Coding so take my question with a grain of salt.
But please, keep one thing in mind for me. What have you become when even nightmares fear you?

I for one would just love to have some more options. Perhaps just adding in more skins? The DMs keep busting out this glorious stag model for the Tuatha events. Is it possible to add it in as a skin, but using the wolf or the bear template?
