I agree that Holy Sword wands should be removed for most of the reasons already listed.
That sucks because Holy Sword is one of the few paladin abilities that is really nice. However, a consequence of not taking 14 levels of paladin should be not being able to cast Holy Sword; if it's any consolation, ally paladins can cast it on you easily enough.Originally posted by OnyxTigress View PostI'd like to see it made so only paladins could use it, rather than undo with it completely. Not all of us paladins can cast the spell.
I am sure the build you have made to exclude reaching 14th level of paladin makes up for the convenience -- or if not, it makes RP sense: paladins who have dedicated their lives solely to being a paladin should have a mastery over being a paladin, a mastery that can not be flippantly compensated by a wand some profiteer makes.Ramza Xantheus "...for a meager fee, of course."

The only issue I have with the holy sword wands is how casual pallies are about tossing their gods holy might around as if they were just mages casting burning blade. From reading the spell Holy Sword, I have always gotten the idea that this spell was special. It meant something to cast it and it was more then just some good damage when you roll into mossdale. So I am always surprised that there were pallies out there willing to help mages make money off their gods sacred blessings. Maybe I am just looking at this all wrong though.GMT -9

That is the right way to look at it, but it takes a wand or scroll for a mage to make it into a wand or a pally who took craft wand as a feat. Thresh got her start from the wand that GBX's Sunite drow gave me, using the wand to make another wand. Also one can make it from the Runesmith's Tablet that drops in Whurest.
But I agree is a Sacred blessing and that's how it should stay, gives incentive to want to play a pure paladin.

I have dragon disciple. Which, if it worked as it does in pnp, I believe I'd actually end up with spell progression to be able to cast holy sword.Originally posted by The Butcher View PostThat sucks because Holy Sword is one of the few paladin abilities that is really nice. If it works like it does in dnd 3.5, you can only add spells to your lists as per whatever level you're already capable of casting at certain levels, you don't get spellcasting progression.I have dragon disciple. Though I find it funny that you COULD actually gain divine spells through this means.
If it's pathfinder, then the spellcasting progression specifies in the class that it's arcane-only.Aesa Volsung - Uthgardt Warrior

Why not just up the UMD requirement to use wands? It's always been kind of silly to me that my level 20 ranger with crap for charisma and basically no skill points to speak of managed to invest enough in UMD to use anything from Holy Sword to Enervation to Burning Sword.
Just matching the UMD requirement to the level of the spell in the wand would go a long way. Builds with UMD in the high 20s do require sacrifice of some kind to get there, be it taking able learner and a level in a class with UMD as a class skill, or simply devoting a load of points to get there. Putting them up with the scroll-DC UMD means they'd be just another ridiculous PvP tool like scrolls of Bigbys, Mordes, Avasculate, PwP/K, etc.
But, really, if we're all going to join the Holy Sword lynch mob, perhaps we can lynch Enervation wands, too? What if, like, someone with HiPS and 50 charges of (mostly) unavoidable level drain was running around!
~gasp~
Edit: Also Lesser Spell Breach wands. A fighter with 10 UMD having 50 charges of stoneskin removal? Unacceptable.Aleister Kimaris - Dragonblooded Knight of the Northern Watch

I think it might simply be more optimal to see about adding the script segment from Sequencer into Wand creation. Sequencers cant be enchanted from items, and technically wands should not be either. That seems to be more of the crux of the problem than the unbalance of the wands, I think.
The wands themselves do exactly what they should. However, the production is far greater than it aught to be for certain flavors.

I am fine with the production of the wand. If there are wizards out there willing to risk the wrath of the church to produce such items then I am all for it. The problem is that crafting is looked at as less IC and more OOC so.... No one really cares if an Orc wizard is reproducing the blessings of an elven god.
If you are going to craft it then have at it, but there should be IC repercussions when the various churches or powers that be find out some wizard is profaning their God. Cause that is pretty much what it is.GMT -9
