  • Pathfinder Human Bonus Feat

    Hello, children.

So what we've discovered in implementing these new subraces is that NWN 2 is hardcoded to only give the level 1 racial bonus feat to the races that occupy the original "Human" and "Strongheart" halfling rows in the racialsubtypes.2da. This is why new PCs created with the subraces aren't getting their bonus level 1 feat at character generation (but skillpoints work fine). There are a few ways to address this:

    1. We could develop a script/gui in-game to let new humans choose an ability score to increase. This is not going to happen. I'm only including this so you pedantic code monkeys don't offer it as a suggestion.

    2. We decide that all human subraces get the same bonus feat at level 1. The front runner in the few conversations I've had is Luck of Heroes, but I'm open to suggestions.

    3. We decide that all human subraces get a bonus feat at level 1 related to the attribute increase. Probably be something along the lines of Power Attack and the feat that gives +1 to skill checks involving Strength for Strength humans, but open to suggestions.

Please participate in the poll and offer your feat suggestions.

Question: Would it be allowable to forego the new subraces on character creation and use the original race to select any feat that you want (foregoing the +2 ability modifier)?

Nothing stopping you, though most feats are inferior to that +2 stat increase. +2 Strength is +1 to hit and damage, +2 DEX is +1 AC, Reflex Saves, and sometimes to hit, +2 CON is +1 hp/level and +1 Fort save, +2 Int is +1 skill point/level, another language, +1 to INT-based DCs ... you get the point.

That's the last, secret, unattractive option, where people pick the basic human to get their feat, then ask to be switched to the Pathfinder subrace. I'd really like to not have to edit bics in game at some point.

Option 2 sounds like risky business since no two feats are created equal, but I don't think I'd be too sour about it since this whole thing is a flat buff anyway. Question, though: how will this affect existing humans?

You must have been living under a rock. I've been changing existing humans to the subraces, been through 50+ so far. It's a simple .dmbicset command in game.

Oh, no, you've done the same thing with me.
I mean: if a build relies on 2 feats gained at Human character creation, replacing Quick to Master with another feat could cause the whole build to collapse. Will Humans be forced to remake in this case or will they be left alone?

Being shifted from a basic human to one of the human subraces does not cause you to lose any feats. If you're asking if we would force already-built humans to have their feats changed to match whatever we decide to do with the subraces, no, we would not.

Nevermind, screw this poll. Came up with a better solution. STAY TUNED.

I don't know what the better solution is, but wouldn't moving the bonus feat to level 2 work? We start with exp for level 3, so...

Nope. Quick to Master is hard-coded to only work for Humans and Strongheart Halflings. There isn't any way around that. As far as I recall, there also isn't any way to add generic bonus feats based on race.

I can't say it related, but I honestly have no idea what it could be. My languages are all weird now. I used to have Celstial and Elven, now ive got theive's cant and some other weird language. Could it be the sub-race change? Anyone else having this issue?

race_feat_(racename).2da <-- edit this table to do that.

Only races in the rows occupied by Human and Strongheart halfling in the racialsubtypes.2da get the bonus feat at character generation.

I voted for the second option to give it more weight, because I am a conformist!

I am. And I've reported it as a bug. You could dig it up and say you've experienced it too. I have had it as an elf for a few months now. Short of a complete rebuild, it doesn't seem fixable except that the devs might catch it before others get it
