I came from a semi perma-death server, and the pvp could be brutal, and instant. Nobody got any kind of a fair warning, because... Assassination. You don't exactly announce your intent with that sort of thing.

I haven't encountered any issues with how things are handled- there, or here. You know the risks when you log on, and everyone I have met has been ultimately mature and behaved in ways that were natural for their character.

Play a KoS character. It's rare to be able to strike up a conversation for more then a few sentences before the mob descends on you with pitchforks.
Most fun I had on the server recently, in a mini event my bad guy was able to act up horribly before the mob of buffed good guys chopped him to pieces.
No win situation for my guy, no problem, it was fun. I'd do it again in a heartbeat.
If you don't like PvP, well then I would imagine most people would let you off the hook if you relay that message to them either Ig format or OCC.
Can't we all just be friends?/enemies

I don't think I'll ever have a solid view on PvP and I can admit to that. What I do like however, is RP leading up-to or after the PvP.

Who doesn't like emoting a lot? I want to express how my character acts so you can visualize it. You just have to be patient for me.

I come from a lot of servers where your character was worth a lot more captured or Killed then the body hauled off and resurrected in confinement.

I suppose I have this viewpoint that I'd rather kidnap or capture someone because I like asking a lot of questions and what's more fun than interrogation! Super-yay Fun-time!

In my optimal world, I'd let some people flag themselves as never engaging in PVP but it's hard to people to be involved in RP and not make enemies and it'd be unfair if people can't try to stop you somehow in a fight.

That being said, people rage quit out of turn based P&P all the time. Just because you have time to make a choice doesn't mean people won't take it seriously.

This is why I USUALLY don't get involved as a GM in a PVP fight. I've had players ask for NPC help and stuff before and I just let them go at it. There's already a higher % chance of hurt feelings when someone dies to a player than to an NPC, let alone the players getting aid from DMs. Makes it look like we favor one side of the conflict when in actuality, I favor people all having fun.

Like I said, for the most part people are chill about PVP and I havn't seen a rage quit from it in a long time. Even if there was one or two, I see pvp happening every day on Sundren, so for the most part, it's been fine.

Most people who have played with me a while know that I typically set Em's enemies to hostile upon login so that if we encounter each other IC, the intent is already known. When the new crop of players joined and a few more PCs were added to that group of hostiles, I messaged the players and explained why I'd be doing what I do. All but one response was "yay I'm on the list!! " and good communication came from it. RP is, of course, preferred in situations, but I made clear with the players that my PC will be trying to capture / kill / neutralize a threat (according to Em.) Only one player has been hesitant about it, but the communication was there all the same. I've not had any OOC disagreements stem from PvP encounters as a result.

My style might not work for everyone, because all PCs are different and have different reasons for PvP. But I'd highly suggest that anyone who frequently has IC conflicts give it a try.
