  • Sundren Menu addition

I think it would be a good idea to expand on the "Right Click character, then Sundren menu" in game. It's great we can see character information like our bank balance now, but I was thinking it would be handy to have a function that would simulate an attack on an invisible object, for the sole purpose of breaking Invisibility. There are times when you want to become visible for others, but finding/targeting a random inanimate object can be difficult. There are also times where that is all you want to dispell/dismiss. You may have other spells active that you don't want to lose. Still though, a "Dismiss all" option wouldn't be bad either, when lag becomes an issue, or you walk up on a group with a bunch of bubbles. This function should not "rest" a character, though, purely a "dismissal" sort of effect on spells, or whatever.

I would love a 'Dismiss all buffs' option at the very least. Wouldn't mind more targeted stuff like removing Invisibility itself, but being able to eliminate all buffs without having to do a full rest would be nice.

I'd love a "dismiss buffs" button.
But please, keep one thing in mind for me. What have you become when even nightmares fear you?

Perhaps have it so you can only do it out of combat or something. Dispel Magic has its uses still!

            I support this idea!
Perhaps a tiny trigger to activate it when entering dead-magic zones, as well?

An after thought on this, is there a way to make it only work on your own spells though? That way you don't have people removing curses or flesh to stone with it.

I can see the reasoning for that, but wouldn't that leave fighters, rogues, and anyone else who gets buffs from other people rather disadvantaged?

Perhaps better would be to have a list of "Beneficial" wards (or to be mechanically correct: "Will save (Harmless)") and dispel only stuff on that list?

I considered suggesting removing only those from party members, but not all of those are friendly (Most, not all), and it would cause problems if someone logged off or left said party before you tried to dismiss wards.

                    Cheers,
                    Kit

Most pure fighters, rangers etc don't need casters any more. Rogues, yes, probably unless they have silly equipment, but a lot of 20 fighters/rangers/barbarians can walk through most high level areas without using much more than a few healing potions no a days.

To be fair that only applies to well planned melee builds whereas even badly made casters (falmari for instance haha) are powerhouses. If you need to dispel stuff surely you can just use one of your many many spells to day to cast dispel magic.... aint hard! I always have a great dispel on hand for getting rid of any spells which have rediculous gfx (alot of them have been fixed/made better though)

Try being a conjurer. With no transmutation. I don't feel like a powerhouse! Not even useful as support, because I only have half the buffs to give. Ramza and I have to team up to buff people, because I don't have transmutation and he doesn't have conjuration. It's a group effort!

I think Fighters are a class of their own, after some good changes. I don't think Rangers and Barbarians should even be mentioned in the same league, though. They are pretty weak mechanically. With the exception (MAYBE) of a well geared Dwarven Barbarian, I don't know a one that could walk through Mossdale or Whurest with only a few healing pots...

As for the OP: I like the idea for the dispell feature, but the staff has a lot on its plate. I think it is another one for the list.

I do apologize, as I don't think I made myself clear. I do not mean to suggest taht one class is more-or-less capable than any other, but simply to state that Yevelian's suggestion that a [dismiss spells] button should only target spells cast by the character would be flawed. A wizard may well buff themselves, but a fighter is unlikely to be providing their own spells. Likewise, a party who optimize their enhancement selections would be requested or wish to suppress such effects and be unable to do so, as only the wizard cast his own [protection from arrows], or similar.
