    1. How about abandoning the stance that FoM rings can't function like FoM rings? What's OP about permanent FoM from an equipment slot? (Hint: nothing)

    2. 5,000 gold is too cheap. Jack it up. Alternately, reduce the number of charges.

    3. UMD lets you use all kinds of other scrolls and restricted magic items. Apples and oranges.

Sorry if this is getting off topic... if we should make a new thread please just ask.

      That aside!

I agree with this. Its true, as has been said already Bigbys can be cast by many people as a scroll. But! The cost of a Bigbys scroll is much higher and requires a very high UMD to cast it without fail (and a willing arcane user to craft said scrolls. Unless there is somewhere to buy them for less than below?)

For example: with an appraise roll of 37, a Bigbys scroll costs 558 gold.

I agree that items like the ring of freedom of movement should be made to work as intended, and there should be other items that maybe give someone a use/day of freedom of movement, before we simply completely reduce or get rid of an item that genuinely helps a class that has no ability to use the scrolls that do exactly what the item does, unless they go the route of taking a level of rogue and going able learner.

Items to counter abilities should be fixed or added before items that HAVE abilities are removed. In my opinion.

Also, the point of the ring not being super high rep needed, is that all the stores are being altered so people can get good gear earlier, so that higher ranks are represented as rewards for Roleplaying effectively and being a good leader, and the lower ranks represent folk who are representing their faction well and are the bulk fighting force. Ever faction had so much gear that only 5% of their faction members could touch, it was just a waste of space a lot of the time. Before, every item at blue level or higher required second to last rank in ever faction. Which meant that whoever created that store made items that he HOPED whoever got to that rank MIGHT be able to use, and CHOSE to use them. We've had two centurioes since I've started playing 3+ years ago, and one was an EK and so couldn't use the centurio level item without failing all his spells, and the other is a bard who had to take a feat just to use it. If the bard had not taken a feat, that shield never would have been used in over three years. Now, we'll see people who are officers using shields that, althought not as high an enhancement as that shield, will still be potent defensive items.

What I'm getting at is, Ok, reduce the charges on the ring. Make it like 10 charges, and make it cost like 9k. That's MORE expensive then scrolls, according to the above math. But making the rep amount be really high will just repeat the cycle of only a very few people ever getting to use the item.
Tigen Amastacia: Died in events so you didn't have to.

Quintin Ulsteris: Nice-guy Legion engineer, deceased son of House Ulsteris.

Clandriel Cain: AKA "Fire-eyes" AKA "Demon hunter" AKA "OH MY GOD, WHY IS HE STILL STABBING ME!!??"

Even if it was like 3 uses per day. If they need it that bad, then they can equip 2
          Active:
          Lazklesh: Water-soul, Fury of Auril
Vlad A'dier: Arrow of Akadi, Blackwood Merc
Jobella Nightjaw: Hunteress and blood spiller

          Retired:
Anosh Lis'lahoul: The ghoul of Serrano, The Nameless Monk. Accepted his fate, and accepted death at the hands of his master.

The thing is, the item you're talking about was for rep at 20,000, not 4,000. While I agree that amount of rep is out of reach of 90% of the faction at a given time, a second ranked soldier has access to an item that is overpowered (as posters have said).

A rare and powerful item like that shouldn't be in the hands of a non-officer, at the very least. Your argument that they make up the bulk of the fighting force is also questionable, since the more powerful and involved PC's naturally rise to the top of a faction.

But at this point, I don't think it matters all that much. The DM team will hopefully look at it and re-evaluate.
            Characters:
Peridan Twilight, one-eyed dog of the Legion, deceased.
Daniel Nobody, adventurer and part time problem solver.

            [DM] Poltergeist :
If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge an intermediate deity's unbridled fury.
