Granted that items like Ring of the Ram exist. I think there should be an item or way to resist bigby's. Anosh was recently involved in a PvP that lasted 5 mins or more. the oppenent kept using the ring. It failed 4 times in a row due to my SR. Personaly i think IC if an item or spell failed that many times you character would think that is useless, and not think it might work eventually. However when it did penetrate the SR, daze failed due to mind spell immunity, but the knockdown worked. Granted its a smart tactic, but there should be away to avoid it. Especially since some chars could beat the kockdown but still be hit by the daze.

FoM blocks Bigbys.Lauan - knight of Thay " I have no fear, and death is merely an inconvenience to me. I do not die until ordered to do so, I do not fall until every last bit of life has left me. I stand tall, proud, a Thayan knight."

Bigby's has already been nerfed, duration-wise. A great portion of the system still functions of the Save-or-Lose mentality of 3.5 D&D, with the few higher-level spells. The duration has been drastically dropped... though perhaps a Hold-like save-per-round concept may have been more in line with the PnP concept of continuous grappling efforts. The daze effect caused by the spell is not the same as mind-influencing magic. Rather, it is a game mechanics interpretation of struggling against a large force construct that is pushing you down and restricting your movement. Same effect... as far as conditions go... but rather different source than a 'Daze'. It's physical, rather than mental, with the opposing STR/grapple check supporting that."I know that kind of man, it's hard to hold the hand of anyone, who is reaching for the sky just to surrender." ~ Leonard Cohen, The Stranger Song
Samak Nerinide - Professional vagabond, arcane investigator, and expert drunkard.
Ripentare - Living, breathing, Create Greater Undead, seeking the riddle of steel.
Wylks Meshrunner - Self-proclaimed magehunter and former sky-pirate of Halruaa.

I thought FoM would only prevent the daze part. Im confused about the not mind affecting though, as when it does penetrate in combat log i get the message immunity to mind affecting spells... As for the disarm thing, im not sure how much a role strength plays in preventing it, as it worked twice against Julia, who was 2-handing a greatsword. I am assuming she has decent strength even if she isn't a STR build. You could try pots or bulls strength thoughActive:

Disarm:
The attacker's disarm roll is:
(attacker's AB corresponding to his highest AB attack) + 4*(attacker's size modifier) + 4*(size of attacker's weapon) +1D20
The defender's roll is:
(defender's AB corresponding to his highest AB attack) + 4*(defender's size modifier) + 4*(size of defender's weapon) +1D20
Bigby's
Working Notes
Bull Rush works like this:
Caster Roll: 1d20 + 14Defender Roll: 1d20 + Strength Modifier + Size ModifierThe caster needs to equal or beat the defender's roll to be successful.Note: The +14 comes from the 3.5E description: +8 for Strength 27, +4 for being Large, and a +2 bonus for charging, which it always gets.
Note 2: The size modifier is +8 for huge, +4 for large, +0 for medium, -4 for small, -8 for tiny.
This spell will daze and knock down the target at the same time. If they are immune to one of the effects, the other one still takes place.
For some reason I've rarely seen disarm fail, used to be EXTREMELY annoying when the Argyle Peasants had it (not to mention the lose your wep bug)
I've NEVER seen Bigby's fail not due to SR but then again you're not hardly going to see anything that can = the +14 on the end of the casters rollI used to be a player like you, but then I took an arrow to the knee.

That is exactly what I had in mind. Then it would still be really useful against certain enemies, but not overpowered in PvP (as players on average have ridiculous saves, and can boost them even more with buffs/potions)Originally posted by Chocolate Radio View PostThe duration has been drastically dropped... though perhaps a Hold-like save-per-round concept may have been more in line with the PnP concept of continuous grappling efforts. .
I was thinking Reflex save every round.
But, I'm fine with the current implementation too. That ring costs 5000gp and he apparently used it all up to defeat you. Get a wand of Spell mantle or FoM. And if you can't use that, then accept the fact that some character builds will almost always beat you 1-on-1 in Pvp (basically any wizard would beat me with ease...1 Mords/Greater dispel and I'm F'ed).
If he gets an item that protects against Bigbys then I want an item that protects against Greater Dispel/Mords. And likewise everyone else will want an item that protects against their Achilles heel.UTC+8
Yes, I realise my RP writing sucks. Just be thankful I keep it short

fighters will mess me up most of the time anyways. im not looking for items to protect against my achillies heal. Bigbys was my undoing in that fight for sure. My thing is, i have SR, and mind effect immunity. Most PCs dont have either of those let alone both. Even with its lowered duration, he still got 10 attacks before i could do anything. I would hate to have that ring used on my like that if i wasnt the build that I am. Increased saves would only help the daze, but as Cog said, most people can't overcome the knocldown either. I guess pots of stoneskin would help if they existed, for people who don't have the spell and can't use scrolls or wandsActive:

I dont think there is any issue with the spell, there duration was the problem thats been cut down. maybe the issue is its on an item with 20- charges that anyone one meeting the rep in that faction can use. It's not a caster with a max of like 6 of them to toss at once.Bram Drismon: Sundrens Centurio
