  • More Blatant Subdual Message

I would suggest that a more direct message be sent to a player when they are subdued. In some recent PvP madness, my player was subdued while a fight was raging around me and I didn't realize it. I thought I had simply recovered and so I joined the fight again, which obviously should not have happened.

Maybe when you die, it would help to send a message to the player and to also use floating text on the character saying
    *<character name in caps> SUBDUED*

Thus making it blatantly obvious that the person was subdued.

I don't see the problem? When you're subdued you shouldn't be able to do anything until it wears off?

Doesn't it already pop up floating text saying *CHARACTER has fallen to the floor winded* or something along those lines?

Yeah GBX, but in a prolonged fight, like the one I was in, the fight was still going when it wore off.

And yes Doubtful, it does say you fall winded, but I was hit by a spell and I thought it was part of the spell, not a subdual. And I couldn't really see what happened because the fight that continued to rage around me put so much spam into my log that I couldn't determine exactly what happened. If it would just specifically say subdued, then it is blatantly obvious, instead of a forcing a dullard like me trying to figure out where that text came from.

It just a small change to the text so that thick people like me really get it with no room for confusion.

FYI,I don't think anything else generates that type of text; if that's true, being subdued would be the only scenario. Was it the first time you've been subdued?

Yes it was. All my other fights have ended with someone going to the fugue. And now in the future I will know what's happening, but to other people who are encountering their first subdual it might be confusing (as it was to me).

            *edit*

Actually, now that I think about it I was subdued one other time when one of my characters dueled Kyle Rendell, but that was so long ago I forgot all about it.

What we need here is a custom VFX with little tweety birds circling above the head of the subdued.

The message is a "server message", not a text or spoken message. When you're in the middle of a huge combat I think that's what Snow might be referring to? The "falls down winded/unconscious" is quickly eclipsed by scores of X attacks Y yada yada.... If it was "spoken" by the person who fell winded, it would appear in the chat instead (assuming everyone is like me and has the two windows open )

Could the subdued stay subdued as long as the player who subdued them was within a certain range or in the area? That would mitigate the problem too I'd think?

I was sure it was spoken! I know it pops up to everyone in the area and hovers above the characters head.

Unless something recently changed, the "falls winded" message IS spoken. I keep my combat / server messages in a secondary window, and the subdual messages don't appear there.

Yes it is spoken. And I did see it, but I misinterpreted what it meant, because it did not say subdued in the message.

I personally don't see this as a problem, people only say winded, knocked out when subdued.. which is what you are doing.

I don't think we need giant text saying "BOB IS SUBDUED, HE'S KNOCKED OUT!" , in fact this is the first time I've heard any confusion on the matter.
The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.

Probably because people tend not to use subdual in the first place. But that's cool, I'll just keep an eye out for it myself and try to help any new players out where I can.
