Do you have a faction item of any sort that says "Legion" on it, though? Like I said in my previous post, players cannot use the DMFI to rename items, so a valid way to show rank could be as follows:
[. . .]
"...look, I'm official, okay?" Appraise Item: Legion Full Plate.

((Or craft their own and name it appropriately.))

I already had the idea about how this could be used by some people outside certain factions. . .

The appraisal idea of a faction specific item would work for something that can't be renamed, like a trinket or your boots. As pointed out though, armor, weapons and shields can be renamed when they are enchanted by players.

But really now, whos going to spent a few hundred gold to go to the trouble of having some armor made to look like that of a particular faction, then getting it enchanted and renamed, and then carry the extra baggage around, just to be able to flash it and look legit?

I still vote for "badges" with +skills like the ones in the Ebon Coin store. Have maybe 2-3 per faction for low-mid-high ranks, or perhaps even all ranks for a faction such as the Legion.
