  • Higher Level Healing Spells: Why do they cost money?

Let's not punish clerics for performing the role of a healer instead of a GodTank. Please?

Why the F(#$@^ do ANY of the spells have goldcosts? That does absolutely nothing to 'balance' them out when it takes 5min of Veritas + AoE at level 20 to rake in 5k gold.

Get that nerfed spell list in game most ricky tick, imo.

            I also support this in general. Why even charge gold from any school of magic. -_-;

I believe it was supposed to represent material components.

However, I don't recall healing spells requiring any and agree with the sentiment that priests should not be discouraged from applying healing magic rather than being a (self-)buffbot.

Yeah, stoneskin costs 50g because diamond dust costs 50g. Its pretty simple folks!

Im much rather pay the cost instead of searching for rare materials to cast my spells. Who has a piece of licorice to cast haste? not me..

*edit* Ohh and on the subject of higher level healing; regenerate... nuff said!

Which would be great, except that very few of the spells on Sundren have material components at all. Almost every 9th level spell has a casting cost of 150+ gold, yet out of all of them only Shapechange would have a casting cost in PnP. I'm fine with Premonition having a cost because it works completely differently in NWN2 than it does in PnP, but so very many of the spells that cost gold on Sundren have no material component. The Bigby's certainly don't, they just have a focus of a leather glove yet they cost 50+ gold a pop.

No idea what you're trying to say here... You name off a couple spells that do have material components, then go off to say "REGENERATE!" then don't name any real points like that word in and of itself it the catch-all to your argument. (I'd like to point out; Regenerate doesn't have a components cost either, it has a focus)

The Bigby's spells aren't as powerful in PnP, for the most part.
Running across the mountains, attacking with an oversized scalpel, cometh Helga Great-Wyrm! And she gives a mighty bellow:
"Brace yourself, oh human speck of dust! You are made of meat and I am very hungry!"

Right, and adding a small gold cost doesn't decrease their power. At all.

Adding a gold cost is a small annoyance, at best - it's easy to grind 5k gold for casters in 10-15min of Veritas.

If the idea is to bring the spells into 'balance', then the spells need to be changed - not a superfelous gold cost added.

                          That sounds about right.

I think we should put the real spell components IG (in strange and hard to find places and make them necessary to cast the spells...

Or do away with the "random" spell casting gold tax.
                            Active Characters:

                            Roman Miellthorpe -- Crypt Carver
Church -- Bastion priest of the 'tough order'
                            Dutch -- Blacksmith
Canus -- Of the Glade Tribe
Gorri Blackbeard -- Dwarf Stout of the Legion

How about doing this but instead of hiding componenets in a static location add it to the loot table in the dungeon which has a lvl requirement that is about what lvl you need to be to cast said spell

Would be a neat thing to do when the loot tables are finished by GBX
