Every player who's taken 'the X or Y class/race with the possibility of perma', and knowing it ... doesn't accept this little fact. They'll jump through holes and plot crazy plots and get DM help to avoid it. I've seen it happen. Lotsa times.
Maybe this will change with the new death system and the Bruce Willis idea will hold more merit.
Option 2 is gud.Originally posted by ThePaganKingSo, the roguethree bootlickers strike again.

After rereading it, I think I may have understood the die hard path incorrectly. Still. It promotes people standing around idle to let the ticker rock out and they may decline adventures that they would otherwise take on. Anyways, I'm not really for it or against it. I just don't care for it.
After the game, the king and the pawn go into the same box.

Again from another server. They called it story type or some such. At creation you were given the option to choose one or the other.
If you took the active (running around and killing things) story line, then you got a bonus in your combat xp and a reduction in the RP xp.
If you took the less active (scholar/debater/socialite) story line, then you got a bonus to xp for Talking with others and you got less for combat.
I do not believe they had a ticker at all.
At level 6 or so you were given option of changing your story type once.
There are problems to be had with both, one revolves around population, if there are not enough compatible story types, you have no one to grind with, and no one to talk to, leaving you sitting on your hands. Second if English is not your native language, you think slowly, or you are just a slow typist then you loose out choosing the second way, forcing you to become a grinder if you want to keep up. Last, grinders would not want to form parties with scholar types who stand and discus the architecture/mold/living conditions of each room after they finish fighting the monsters. Conversely who wants the rest of your party charging off with out you when you want to stop and discuss the structural engineering of goblin doors.

I don't think you give the Sundren community enough credit.
If there are players who will level from 14-20 off Argyle and completely skip the XP and Gold EZ-mode that is Veritas because of RP (and most of the time, this kind of RP doesn't even involve inter-character RP), I'm sure there are players who will RP this kind of thing.Originally posted by ThePaganKingSo, the roguethree bootlickers strike again.

I would be willing to bet on more players taking the RP route then Combat here, really. Even without the possibility for RP ticks while between combat, most parties I am in stop frequently to RP the ins and outs. Sometimes long enough for areas to respawn on us, which can be bad.
As long as there is still the ability to gain 'some' XP from killing things when you have the RP mode, I am all for it. Its a great suggestion.

Solution: Remove XP from game. Roleplay from the heart, not from the character sheet.
That is all.

Just make sure they don't get too much, because it's a less risky path - the tradeoff is that it should be a slower one.
Personally I'd rather you get 0 exp from kills and all exp comes from everything but killing. Give up your ability to grind exp for better progression elsewhere? I'm not mad at that.

You mean like, get XP for things like crafting, opening locks, etcetera? Non-combative use of skills?Pyras: Red Wizard of Thay, High Arcanist of Illusion, Master of the Enclave's Knight Commander.
