One thing I've noticed is how all factions currently have the exact same methods for increasing reputation: Flags, Donations, and DM Events. What I would propose is to change this up, adding more flavor to the factions. My current suggestion is something like this:

-Every point of fatigue spent, +1 rep if in Exigo/Thayans (If craft system was reworked, maybe +1 rep/item.)

-Every 10 undead/demonic creatures slain (Of reasonable level), +1 rep if in a goodly faction

-Every 10 chaotic creatures slain, +1 rep if in Legion.

-Blackwood could possibly get rep for boss monsters, plus additional gold.

-Boss monsters give +1 rep when killed by those in evil factions.

It's a rough idea, and I'm sure there's more important things to do, but that's why it's just a suggestion.

I can see some promise behind it, but there is one flaw I can see right off the bat.

    Rep farmers.

People would then start farming some of the lower lvl bosses just to get rep, the crafting Idea is good because it is limited by fatigue, and the 10 creatures slain makes a decent limiter as well.

Given some deep thought and a bit more tweeking I'm sure our DM team could make something happen.

Though at +1 rep a pop, it would still be slower then flags.

Rep farming is already extremely easy to do anyways. Since gold = red, and grinding = gold, grinding = rep. Might as well diversify it for the benefit of RP. See more Paladins in the Necropolis, see more Thayans selling wares, see more mercenaries out for contracts, etc.

Not with the patch I'm releasing this weekend. Rep farming through donations will take you a few billion years to be viable.
The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.

I was just using 1 rep as a placeholder value, and I forgot to say that in my ideal situation, the rep would only be gained if you killed 10 appropriately-levelled enemies.

The reason this was to be slower than flags was so it would just supplement the rep gained from a dungeon. I didn't mean to say the banner system should be taken out, only that more avenues for reputation gain should be added.

                WHAAAAT.

It's already taken me up to level 16 to get enough money to donate to reach 2,000 Rep! And I got 500 rep given to me through several DM events!

And I'm told it takes 5000 rep to even reach r2!

Are there people out there able to earn 20,000 gold in a single run or something that are unbalancing this?

So what, exactly, does Rep get you besides access to more powerful items in Faction Stores?
                  Cheers,

The whole scale is off because of what some players were able to grind in gold, in fact we will probably put a hard cap anyway (we'll see how the initial changes are) to prevent rep farming.

The values for ranks will probably change to reflect some of this. Our policy for DMs internally has also changed in terms of rep that can be given. To give an example I've seen players past level 15 who were good RPers at rank 1 or 2 that I've bumped up a full rank before.

Expect to see that more often, where appropriate. We cater to the RPer, not the grinder... but we still want things to be fun of course.

We don't have as many ways it benefits you as desired, yet... but that's part of the long process of what we're trying to accomplish. The idea behind rep is you get better equipment, more prestige, more power... more authority, more say in your faction. It makes you more influential.

Heh, and here I am leaving factions because I can not grind for gold to even pay for the level items I was high enough ranked to use much less waste any on donations.

This happened like 2 days before I found the damn donation jar... DAMN YOU FATE... DAMN YOU TO HELLLL!!!!!

I like the idea of other avenues of rep gaining (even if it's one point at a time). On a side note... it gets a bit tedious to RP with your buddies when your group wants to grab a banner.

"Hey buddies, why don't we.... go.... um... knock off a few bad guys and.... um *scratches head* get another *clears throat* BANNER from those um... very bad bad.... evil... um... bad guys, that um *shrugs*.... never seem to run out of banners..... for our respective... um *looks around to see if anyone is giving him the <you're crazy> look* um bosses..... that for some reason *ahem* only known in the upper circles of government... 75 banners is simply not enough.... um.... *coughs*... ok?"

Any automagical way to gain lil bits of rep which also encourage RP would be really groovey.

                            Thanks,
