  • Hero's Staff or Gloves with Bludgeoning

Would it be possible to add a Hero's Staff that is in line with other Hero's _weapon_ and some magic gloves with Bludgeoning? It is my understanding that there is a hard coded flaw in Gloves, Gauntlets and Bracers that makes any hand to hand damage Slashing a soon as anyone wears them, not just Monks.

Experimentation in the Ruins and Necropolis bares this out a Monk can tear apart Zombies (well Bog Zombies have some slashing resistance) while gloved but suddenly hits DR when fighting skeletons. When the gloves are removed, then can tear into skeletons but now lack any additional magical aid.

Since Spells like Magic Weapon, GMW, Blades of Fire, etc. can not target gloves/hands, it would be nice if there were a greater selection of staves available for monks anyway. Even Cold Iron, Silver or Gold shod staves would be nice.

Also: The Exorcist's Palm gauntlets while made from cold iron, do not actually do "cold iron slashing" to the demonic undead in Argyle.

Given the flurry of forum posts about various PrC improvements... I wanted to selfishly recommend improving Monk kit. I like Grant's recommendation and would welcome these improvements.

Specifically, I too would advocate for a set of Hero's gloves in the Arbiter's store. IMO the best gloves in the game are The Exorcist's Palm at +2/1d4 Divine. These gloves are great! ...but they are the top of the food chain and once a monk acquires them there is no where else to go.

I know there are major changes coming. I believe I read that there will be more +3 kit in the faction stores in the future. I applaud all of these efforts and hope Monk kit is part of these future upgrades.

    Cheers!

To what few fellow monks exist, you can rejoice. I noted that recently some new monk gear was secretly added to the Sestra monastery. There's +3 armor and gloves, both of which is very welcome. Only wish I had access to it when I was leveling Lilene!

There are some lesser Sun Soul "robes" in the temple of Sune too. I think Lilene would have been hard pressed fitting either the Weeping Friars or the Sun Soul outfits into her wardrobe. Look up Ash some time and he will model the male version of both OOC for you.

There are adamantine gloves sneaking around too((for those who dont go full monk or havent reached that level)), though their placement in the Cartel/Eboncoin store is a bit odd.

I intentionally made the Weeping Friar robes fugly.

They're an order of ascetics. If you're concerned about having pretty clothes you don't belong.

I will deal out punches and look good while doing it, damnit.

Oh reading the description of the order the appearance is fitting a bunch of masochistic hoarding drunks *cough paraphrasing*. If it bothered me I'd switch to the Shining Hand's +2 for everyday wear; should in fact, as the colours are close to Selune's priests anyway.

You can not use ascetics as an excuse for ugly though as the Sun Soul are also ascetics partially under Sune's definition of the term; no clashing colours maybe? A group of flashy dressers if ever. Even monk robes in Shar's black and purple look good. I would have put Nati (before her conversion) into the games "monk robes" in those colours if I thought she could have gotten away with it.

I have always felt more priests (at least), when not out adventuring, should be wandering around in cloths in their deities colours. Thumbs up to those that do.

Oh I am fairly sure Snoop is to blame for the Sun Souls new robes, they are not ugly, they just would not have fit in Lilene's sombre wardrobe.

I checked out the store in Sestra and I agree the equipment added is great for Monks. The new equipment imposes class and level restrictions, which is the first time I have seen this IG. To clarify, I have seen faction and class restrictions... but never level restrictions.

I play a (14th level) Sacred Fist who is unable to use the nicer equipment because it is hard coded for higher level monks. For all other things Sacred Fist levels stack with Monk levels. I would sincerely appreciate it if SF levels were considered and accounted for in the class and level restrictions.

                      Cheers!

The Barbarian store is similar. Though due to my build I'll never be able to get any of the stuff in it, neither will, say, a Barbarian 8 / Fighter 4 / Frenzied Berserker 8. (Other than the worst, mostly-useless stuff)

tl;dr, it would be cool if Frenzied Berserker levels counted as Barbarian levels for the Barbarian-only store.

Then again, with the coming update making it easier to get good gear, might not be immediately necassary.
Running across the mountains, attacking with an oversized scalpel, cometh Helga Great-Wyrm! And she gives a mighty bellow:
"Brace yourself, oh human speck of dust! You are made of meat and I am very hungry!"

At the risk of sounding snobbish, but I love that there is specialty gear for purer level character classes. Sacred fists have so many more capabilities than average monks (including, due to bugs, the ability to wear light armor while retaining all other monk and SF bonuses, practically 4 more armor right off the bat!) that I think there should be some tradeoff. Let's be honest, from a pure power perspective, there's almost no reason not to roll SF for all the feats and cleric abilities you gain...both for yourself, and party utility.

My newer toon Rugus, barbarian all the way. I look forward to using that awesome barbarian store. Which seems awesome, albeit a bit expensive ((for good reason I suppose.))

Also I don't think SF levels should stack. Giving the power of those items only to pure Barb/monks. Both classes need all the help they can get. Barbarians are weak defensively while Monks are mostly weak offensively with such low ab.

The ability for a Sacred Fist to wear armor is not a bug. It is an ability given with the class. This is not unlike other class specific feats individuals gain, e.g. fighters secure all shield and armor feats, etc.

As someone who plays a Monk you may appreciate the following...

// An older martial artist well versed in many different forms enters a Dojo asking to learn a new style. The Sensei agrees and pairs him with one of his younger students. This student is very skilled in this particular form. After many weeks of instruction the Sensei orders them to spar.

The older martial artist struggles in the form, and after a few minutes he switches to those forms he is better at and gains the upper hand against the younger student. Seeing this, the Sensei stops the sparring and asks the older martial artist to his office.

Once there, Sensei grabs a piece of chalk and draws a line on the blackboard in his office. Sensei tells the older martial artist this "line" represents his opponent. Sensei asks the older martial artist how he would defeat him.

The older martial artists studies the "line" and considers Sensei's question for a long while. Once he is confident he has designed the best plan to defeat his opponent he takes his hand and wipes away a portion of the line. Ah... the Sensei says. That is precisely what you did today. This caused the older martial artist to smile in satisfaction.

Then, Sensei took the chalk in his hand and drew a new longer line below the first. Looking at the older martial artist he explained... the first "line" represented all the experience and skill possessed by your opponent. You decided to focus your energy on attacking what he knew. You should have been more focused on extending your own line by using this as an opportunity to learn. //

I play a Sacred Fist because it conforms to my personal likes and dislikes. I applaud your choice to play a "pure" monk and your opinion on this issue. It is only snobbish of you if you insist that I adopt your personal likes while dismissing mine.

                              Cheers!
