  • Player List: Remove Some Info

I would like to propose the removal of the Player List's (P) ability to show who is in a zone and who is elsewhere. As it stands now, it is far too easy to hit P and see who is in an area - and RP changes if known stealthers or evil characters come into the zone. We already have a tool that shows where people are gathered if they are counted in searches, so finding RP is unaffected.

There is no real good reason (of which I can think) why anyone should know who is in a zone simply by looking at a list. I do know that removing the information is possible since the Baldur's Gate PW has this same modification.

    Thoughts?

As a metagame champion, I don't want this removed. That is all.

                  I've brought this up before:

                  http://www.sundren.org/forum/showthr...ht=player+list

I heartily endorse and encourage it.

I understand the spirit in which this request has been made, but I'm not for it. Not everyone shows up on the 'find people' tool and an unfortunate number of our playerbase make themselves harder to find - often just for the sake of privacy. Asking for directions is often out of the questions, but if my character happens to wander around, then it's usually okay to roleplay/get involved.

When I come online, I usually want to interact with people. I see the character list and know some of my buddies are around, and I start searching for them. The Player List is one of the tools I can use to go in someplace, see if they are there, and if not look elsewhere rather than amble around the map like a goose.

I don't think I use it for exploits per say simply because if I'm not looking for the people I want to find, I'm probably not having the window open and taking up real estate on my widescreen display.

Given that, I'd be sorry to see it go.

If you're concerned about being metagamed, toggle yourself anonymous. The find people tool is not going anywhere... it's a vital tool for newbies to help find RP.

Think they're talking about the player list that comes with when you press P. The one that can be used to set people hostile, invite them to parties and such.

It can also be used to see who's in the same area as you.

Err.. no no. We don't want player finding removed. We want the Elsewhere indicator removed, so you can't see who is in your ZONE or not.

If you could only remove the elsewhere status... then I would be game. I'd like to know who is hostile and where they are. And, quite frankly your RP should change if someone else is in the area. It also helps find folk who are not on the search if you are actively seeking them though this could be solved with IC tells. Asking for search/track/gatherinfo checks. Just like the DM's ask for. People should be big enough to give their location to a tracker that rolls say a 36 survival.

What I mean to say is that you and your party may be used to your routine but other might not, so with others in the area I should hope folks use more emotes and narrations explaining their characters actions.

I know there are some folks out there that will use this info to metagame but I would encourage them not to.

I've said it before communicate and there will be less problems. If you think someone is using the player window to alter there actions based on you being there. Tell them. Just do so as tactfully as possible.

You know if metagamers were BLATANTY ignored by the rest of the server they would quickly change their ways or leave.

Meta Wonderboy logs on and finds you, zones to afk for buffs, then comes to attack you... but wait! You tell him you think he is a metagamer and you don't want to play with him, if he persists you log for a few minutes or go afk. Meta Wonderboy goes to play by himself. He gets bored. He tries it again, same result the player refuses to play with him. He gets sad. He stops metagaming, or he leaves the server.

I forget where I found this, I want to say the DMFI 1.10b file. But it does exactly as suggested. The only minor issue is that the playerlist box itself is a tad smaller for me. Perhaps someone with xml experience could tweak that?
