Give it a visual effect, much like Stoneskin.

This will stop the majority of favored souls/clerics from running it 24/7.

I'd rather stop FoM from negating its downsides.

I like both ideas. If it's one or the other, then Cornuto's, por favor. Same for Tortoise Shell and the Death Ward - Living Undeath combo.

I didn't even know those kind of combos were possible.

Running across the mountains, attacking with an oversized scalpel, cometh Helga Great-Wyrm! And she gives a mighty bellow:
"Brace yourself, oh human speck of dust! You are made of meat and I am very hungry!"

tortoise shell isn't too bad, all things considered.

but the stone body/fom, and death ward/persisted living undeath is just horribly abused.

i feel bad for the assassins and rogues that have to fight them.

              ...

not like it matters, because you're going to get a word of faith straight to the face .. but still, the thought of having a chance is always motivational.

i've already given up thinking that Shepard could ever kill a cleric or FS.

still, getting a few crits before im merc'd would be nice

I don't actually want to nerf a spell, as much as make it visible with the Stonekin effects so its not abused.

My melee character that I have been playing recently got obliterated last night by a arcane caster that I would have torn into tiny pieces if I could have only reached them in time. Didn't bother me to lose one bit. I will just have to come up with a better plan next time. I'm afraid I just don't understand the idea of lets take casting powerful spells away from casters.
Been totally enjoying playing a slingblade swinging melee guy. They have strengths and weaknesses. Casters have their own.

Like having 80 hit points compared to ohh say 300 or so :P

I myself don't mind the spells. I just wait til they are sleeping

The idea with Stone Body is that it's one of those buffs applied long before any CvC is expected. Most PCs with access to long-lasting, nonvisual buffs apply them to start the day. If Stone Body had a visual effect (or the movement speed penalty that's overcome by Freedom of Movement), people wouldn't walk around with it up 24/7, which would give your melee character that chance to land a big hit before the crap hits the fan.

The buffs like Stone Body and Tortoise Shell were never meant to be overcome by Freedom of Movement, just like Living Undeath's Charisma penalty isn't meant to be overcome by Death Ward. It's a mechanical oversight (thank you, Obsidian) that detracts from game balance in CvC and CvE, so fixing these oversights improves parity, which is a good thing.

again, i understand that all classes have their pros + cons.

I chose to roll a fighter, and not a FS or cleric, i really do understand.

however, clerics and FS running stonebody 24/7 is just abusing the spell. Having a graphics change would change that, i think. People don't run around in tortoise shell or stone skin RPing.

let's face it - the cleric/fs can still go etheral and cast all those uber buffs to merc people. it's just a simple change that would alleviate some of the godly powers that clerics run around with and make them have a weakness - ie, an assassin/rogue can actually get the jump on you ... and yes, maybe even that lonely weapon master.
