Not true, you just have to know what you're doing - you can't override everything, but you surely can do it in this case.

I found the most recent post about this topic here: http://www.sundren.org/forum/showthr...=spell+effects

QTR, the Less Obtrusive Buff effects mod does not work from the override folder. I can imagine there may be a way to make it work, but I'm not the man to figure that one out, nor do I want to rock the boat!

This was Saulus' word on the topic in the last thread:

      And GBX's post:

My day would be made by toning down the bubble buff effects and making the 'skin' visuals not effect the armor/clothing the character has on. Having said that, I'm not the one doing the work!

I think this needs to be considered spell by spell. I personally like the effects to annoy people... so they're less likely to use them.

Beastie raises a good point. I try to avoid using anything with glowing spangly effects unless there's guaranteed to be trouble. Turning into a migraine inducing blur isn't something to be done lightly.

Why would ANYone want to stand around and do friendly campfire chat while maintaining protections around themselves anyway? If it wasn't for the free rest at said fire, they'd all be screwed when there is a situation where they REALLY need buffs.

*surprise dragon attack after a nice long chat around the fire*
Diedric the Mage: Hahaha, you can't hurt me I've still got Premonition and immunity to Fi- *poof* .... oops.

People who 'Apply basic wards', meaning buffing up with every long lasting spell in your book every single time that one wears off.

Just so you know - I despise you.
It is the greatest of all mistakes to do nothing because you can only do a little - Do what you can.

Can we craft an item with the permanent spell effect then? In PnP it just costs spell level * caster level * 2000 gold

Weeh, permanent True Seeing, Death Ward, Displacement, Haste and Premonition!

                :P

In PnP it's also very limited and specific as to what spells can be applied permanent to yourself, objects or others.

2000 gold in PnP is different than 2000 gold in NWN2

Yep. But it actually costs XP not gold.

                      And . . .

That's Permanency-ed spells... I was talking about putting a permanent spell effect on an item, using the crafting rules

                        Anyway I wasn't serious.

I for one would love to see elimination of nearly all buff spell visual effects. The 6 secs/CL ones I'd keep, as well as perhaps a few others like MAYBE mirror image. Invisibilty and etheral should still produce an effect. Removing most of the others would cut down a little on lag time and personally I think a holy knight/insane wizard/etc look cooler in battle when they DON'T look like a mushroom-induced hallucination (Don't judge me).

I can't deny though that most of the reasons given for keeping the effects are still good ones. Plus, if they're a pain in the rear to remove, there are better things to focus on.

I do dislike bubbles, but something should be kept to indicate that the person is covered in magic.

And I'm with Doubtful. You don't need buffs up to sit at a campfire!
Running across the mountains, attacking with an oversized scalpel, cometh Helga Great-Wyrm! And she gives a mighty bellow:
"Brace yourself, oh human speck of dust! You are made of meat and I am very hungry!"
