  • Hidden Player Listing

I've seen this on another server and I thought it would be a great addition to this server.

Basically, they managed to hide the NEUTRAL/FRIENDLY/HOSTILE/ELSEWHERE indicators on the Player List so that a player cannot even know who is in the area with them without true visual confirmation.

Something like this would severely cut down on OOCness concerning hidden or spying players or Faction defenders popping into their HQ zones just to see if enemies are in the area.
    The poetry that comes from the squaring off between;
and the circling is worth it, finding beauty in the dissonance.

It is nice being able to see it, but I do agree, I think it would also be a good idea.

Yes, please. As a player of someone whose sole purpose and use is to scout and hide, I find myself getting metagamed so hard by this.

I'd love to see this, but what if it could be even better and some how link it with the toggle visible button, that way you could hide it only if you wanted?

If you make this change, Lollercide will don the trollface and Sundren will never be the same again.

I'm not a big fan of this unless it's just freindly... I'd like to know if someone is hostile in the area to me or so I can turn them hostile. I've been having a problem with right clicking on people to get Examine or anything else that is there (including the make hostile quick button - it's faster for me to scout through the list and turn them hostile there! ... damn mouse - no problem examining things in inventory, just on the main screen itself). This is why we turn off searchable isn't it? I think there are bigger metagame fish to fry than this.

To address your concern, Fezzik, the shield(neutral) and sword(hostile) icons remain on the list, and the icon to the left of the player name still shows you who is hostile to you and who is not. All the change would do is hide the status of the player completely, preventing anyone from knowing who was in the same area as they are.

And I'm sorry to disagree but I believe this is a fairly large "metagame fish," as you say, and such a change would only be a boon to the server as a whole, respectfully.

I misinterpreted then... I thought the player would not be on the list at all...

                      I like this idea!

There's still the big spangly noisy magic effect when you zone in though =(

That's because of all the spangly noisy magic effects you have on

Pity the "Silence" spell doesn't mask the chimes and bean cans!

Back OT, this is a great idea. It would remove a lot of the mess for sneaks and spies. I think tracking people would still work so long as you were hostile and in the same area, making counter-spying much more fun and challenging.

However, I too think it would be best if it were linked to the 'countable in searches' toggle because, ironically, it can be nice to OOC-ly see who's in an area when you go in if you're looking for someone to actually RP with. The search tool is OOC, but is meant to encourage role play, and if someone doesn't mind being found, this can make an otherwise empty-feeling server much more enjoyable.

Now, if we could do away with the OOC nature of zoning to distant regions while being pursued we'd really be sucking diesel!
