Just a note, Lothior was mistaken. Weapons get deflection bonus when they have an AC property. Only shields get shield bonus when they have a property. Therefore two weapon defense's +2 shield bonus is useful whenever you're not wearing a shield.

Not that I need to, but I can confirm GBX's statement on 2-weapon defence (actually improved 2-weapon defence for the +2...but close enough). Ursus has the feat and gets the +2 AC bonus but got nothing from a +1 AC sword he had (due to his +1 deflection AC modifier on the cloak).

2-weapon fighting is extremely hard to get with a fighter you don't plan on having use light weapons and be dex-based in attacking. The 17 minimum DEX is a beotch for a long sword user (like Ursus). You basically have to leave STR and/or CON lower than a normal fighter to get the prereqs for the feat(s). Getting those with a 12 (or even 10)DEX is a MAJOR bonus to the Samurai class (in my opinion) as it frees up 5 to 8 ability points for STR/CON.

Now...if the prereqs for 2-weapon and improved 2-weapon defence were changed to just need the corresponding 2-weapon fighting feat, that would allow Samurai to take the feats without giving them a better fighting ability than a fighter who spends their entire character life working for the the same 2-weapon fighting/defence feats.

Oh I -really- like that idea! It wouldn't be giving them for free... but it would be freeing them up to be taken -by- Samurai and easier for fighters... thus remaining balanced...

Any chance we can revisit this thread at this juncture now that some more time has passed?

Specifically, Samurai getting their Two Weapon Defence & Improved Two Weapon Defence,

They're even still listed in the Wiki after all this time!
