Is there any reason not to give Samurai back their Two Weapon Defense and Improved Two Weapon Defense?

I mean, they should be adept at defending themselves with those swords not just purely attacking, shouldn't they? It makes total sense...

I realize that one could 'do-it-yourself' but... getting that on your own which is possible requires expending three precious feats and pumping up dex and taking the shield proficiency feat extra for imp... (practically pointless for two-weapon, fullplate wearers... like um... Samurai)...

And as for balance... well, due to all the bonus feats fighters get, a pure fighter could be better at being a Samurai than a Samurai (with say, greater weapon speciality and greater weapon focus katana, for instance, among others)... which just seems silly... so please! Give Samurai their defense back!

Sami do not have two weapon def in PNP, so that is what I think they were going for BC.

Anyway it would be nice to have them but really your AC should be over what dual wield ranger can get.

Another point, a fighter NEEDS a high dex for 2W samis do not. Sure you can build a 2W fighter but they will not be the same as a samurai.

Final point and it is a dual point, my skills are way cooler than any fighter and I have persistent auras of fear.

With a wood elf you could easily have an high strength and a high dex to make a fighter (samurai). Intelligence would be a problem but since not many samurai take the int req feats (combat expertise, feint, improved disarm, improved knockdown) it wouldnt cause too many problems.

But of course the general concensus is that only humans should be samurai... probably an outdated 2E tradition that started with monks and paladins!

Rangers can not wear anything heavier than light armor to dual wield. Samurai can wear full plate. Their AC already is higher what a ranger can get.

Which source book are these samurai based on? If I recall, there's a bunch of samurai sources in D&D, just like Ninja.
