Barbarians have Survival, it's meant to represent your ability to survive in the wilderness. That includes the ability to protect your body against bad weather with makeshift clothing, but leatherworking is not tying a badger pelt around your ass, it's skillful tailoring with harder materials.
This is probably what the class designers thought, and this is how it is.

Point taken, but there again I think that crafting his own boots would make my barbarian feeling more IC than forging a breastplate since he actually has Armour crafting as a native skill. Leather working is way more "tribal & barbaric" than smithing in my book.

Would it be possible to have a class feat that allowed barbarians to substitute their survival skill for leather working in certain leather crafting recipies? That would fix most things.

I think the system is setup still works with what you want to do. Leatherworking is available to anyone, but only certain classes can do it with high quality. If you want to be a leatherworking barbarian then invest the crossclass points in it or take the additional skill focus as a feat. It may not create an uber perfect barbarian but it'll satisfy your intented RP.

Why think fierce warriors would not have the dexterity to accomplish this. Besides leather work is NOTHING like tailoring I have done some leather work in my day, stitching is one VERY small aspect of leather working it mostly involves scoring, shaping, gluing and riveting. It does require skill sure but I think that a character used to living on his own with lots of time to devote and serious consequences should they fail to "tie that badger pelt on their ass" might be able to tie it on pretty damn well. Just because it looks "tied" on to more civilized folk does not mean that there was no skill involved.

Also stating that something need not change "because that is the way it is" is hardly constructive. This is a suggestions forum and a good place for an open mind.

The fact that you accomplished it, Gbb, leaves me to believe it should be a barbarian class skill...

Jokes aside, we try and stick to the PNP for class skill assignments. Sorry!

Actually, in PnP everyone gets 'Craft' and 'Profession' as class skills, and no specific distinctions are made as to what classes should get what subskills as a class skill. So essentially anyone could take anything.

The division as it is here is more of a continuation of how class skills were appointed in NWN2.

Ah, then I think it could go for barbarians! especially if Gbb can do it IRL... I mean sheesh, what more proof do we need about barbarian skill??

                    Haha

I'll put up a poll to gather opinions on it. It's a 5 minute change to make, just want to know what folks think.
