So I have a crafter who is finally of a level where he can start to craft stuff. Only problem is he doesn't have the neccesary recipies.
I asked a DM if I had and example of an item and i wanted to duplicate that item, would it be possible to reverse engineer it?
I was informed that DMs are not allowed to give characters recipes.
Say a crafter spends time researching (in the form of craft fatigue perhaps) and of course gold, in the end the crafter winds up with a recipe for the item researched.
I see it working kind of like scribe scroll. Perhaps achieving this with in-game mechanics is a lofty task, but I feel that it would instill a bit more reality into the crafting system. If an in game system is not possible at this time perhaps DM could still support these "at the bench" crafters.
As it stands now a crafter has to grind baddies or get lucky in a shop to be able to craft anything.
Would it not be better to support the tinker, who toils in the labratory, than the blood thirsty grinder, who kills quest bosses multiple times to get more recipies?
