Another thing that occured to me. I'll share:
Nothing forces you to go through your whole full attack routine, which requires you to stand still. An archer that has Manyshot and Rapid Shot (or the improved version) can't just briefly stop to loose a brief volley of arrows and then keep on the move. We're not wizards - we don't have to stand still for a certain lapse of time to cast fire our arrows like mages and clerics need to.
When you get a significant number of multiple attacks in Neverwinter Nights 2, some of those aren't animated, but rather bundled up with existing animations. A character that can full attack with his bow with the following +20/+20/+15/+10/+5 (say, a level 16 ranger with 18 dex and Improved Rapid Shot active) will likely loose his first two +20/+20 attacks in the span of a second.
Using Manyshot, you'd get a -8 penalty on your attacks, but your three first arrows would end up being two shots. That'd be +12/+12/+12/+12 for those two first shots in the paragraph above.
If you end up facing a high AC opponent, it might just not be worth with to stand still and let loose with those latter attacks in your full attack routine (+12/+12/+12/12/+7/+2/-3, when Manyshotting, shows that those later three attacks are probably not worth letting loose). You can keep on the move and only fire the shots you feel will make the most difference and retain the advantage of mobility, which may mean more distance between you and your target as well.
It's something you can do every 6 seconds, so if you learn to time yourself right you can spend five seconds on the move, one shooting, then repeat.
I've mastered that, and it's probably a good portion of why Maia can possibly handle herself alone against the Veritas mountain path and the early portions of the Mossdale Forest.
